The strongest recent coverage covers Sofía Vergara, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, while reporting we could find does not establish current projects for every regular. The original “15 years later” framing is also out of date. The series premiered on September 23, 2009, so October 2026 is 17 years after the premiere. “15 years later” fit 2024, the fifteenth anniversary, and no longer describes the calendar.
The ensemble at a glance
ABC identifies the principal cast as the ten actors below. The table lists each performer’s character and the level of recent public information available for them. “Not stated” means the reporting we reviewed does not establish a current project, not that the actor has stopped working.

The series run, in numbers
ABC describes Modern Family as a sitcom about interconnected families that ran for 11 seasons. Parade’s 2025 cast retrospective gives the more precise figures: 250 episodes, aired from September 23, 2009, to April 8, 2020. Those episode counts and dates come from Parade and have not been checked against ABC’s own episode archive, so treat them as Parade’s figures.
What the cast has done since the finale
Sofía Vergara
Vergara’s most visible recent credits are Netflix’s Griselda and her judging role on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. These are the work reported in recent cast coverage. They do not describe her full current schedule.

Julie Bowen
Bowen has taken on later screen work, including the comedy sequel Happy Gilmore 2. Recent coverage also reports that she went to see Sarah Hyland perform on Broadway, which is one of the clearest examples of castmates showing up for each other’s stage work.
Sarah Hyland
Hyland’s recent reporting centers on Broadway performances. The reporting does not confirm which production is current or when its run ends, so check the theater’s or production’s official page before you assume she is in a show.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson
Ferguson has continued in stage work, and former castmates were reported as supporting one of his performances. The reporting does not establish a complete list of his current projects.
Cast members without a verified current project list
For Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez, the reporting we reviewed does not establish a current project list. That gap reflects the limits of available coverage. It is not a sign that any of them has retired or left acting. Older biographies can be out of date, so avoid relying on them for current status.

Public reunions
The Daily Beast reported in August 2026 that Ed O’Neill, Sofía Vergara, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and series co-creator Christopher Lloyd attended a dinner in Los Angeles. The same coverage recounted that six of the main adult actors appeared together at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Those are two specific, reported events. They do not show that the whole cast gathers regularly, and no source we reviewed says every cast member attends reunions.

Are they still close?
The clearest evidence of ongoing friendships is the public appearances above and the stage support reported for Hyland and Ferguson. Recent entertainment coverage also reports that Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould, who played siblings on the show, are roommates. That is a personal detail reported in the press, not a professional credit, and it is the only off-screen relationship in this roundup that we are reporting.
What is still unverified
- Current projects for Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez.
- Production names and run dates for Sarah Hyland’s Broadway work.
- Whether the younger performers have active schedules beyond the items listed above.
Once a performer’s official site, production page or the studio that made a project confirms a credit, that source should take precedence over press reports.
