The most recent dated reporting on Djibril Cissé places him in Corsica, performing as DJ Tcheba, after a coaching role with AJ Auxerre’s forwards in 2024. Nothing we could date later than May 2025 confirms what he is doing in 2026, so treat his current job as unverified. His playing career brought France caps, Ligue 1 goals and a Champions League medal, but it also included a red card, a serious injury and a missed squad, and in November 2024 a court in Bastia convicted him on one financial charge while acquitting him of two others.
Where he stands, dated
Each claim about Cissé’s present-day life carries a date, because the reporting is uneven:

- May 2025: L’Équipe’s interview says he was living in Corsica and identifies Tcheba as his DJ pseudonym. It frames the 2025 Auxerre testimonial match as a celebration of his varied career.
- November 2024: Ligue 1 reported that he had joined the Auxerre staff in 2023, after a similar role at Marseille, and was working with the club’s forwards under Christophe Pélissier while training for a UEFA A coaching licence.
- 2026: We could not verify his current Auxerre role, his DJ bookings, his agent or his performance schedule.
The playing career in figures
The numbers below describe different competitions and periods. They should not be added together into a single total.
| Measure | Figure | Context and source |
|---|---|---|
| France senior caps | 41 appearances, 9 goals | Fédération Française de Football player record, accessed 2026 |
| Ligue 1 career | 209 appearances, 96 goals | Ligue 1 profile dated July 2024; Ligue 1 describes him as a two-time top scorer |
| Ligue 1 top scorer seasons | 22 goals (2002), 26 goals (2004) | Fédération Française de Football honours record |
| Liverpool | 24 goals in two seasons | Liverpool FC, 2025 |

The setbacks that defined his international career
Three moments explain why Cissé’s international story is remembered as unfinished. In each, he missed a major tournament.
The under-21 red card before Euro 2004
While playing for France’s under-21 side, Cissé received a red card and a four-match suspension, which kept him out of the 2004 European Championship. In an Eurosport interview about his book, he did not blame the referee or the circumstances. He said: “C’est totalement de ma faute.” That translates as “It was entirely my fault.”
The serious injury before the 2006 World Cup
A serious injury sustained in a France–China friendly ruled him out of the 2006 World Cup. The injury, not a selection decision, ended that opportunity.
Omission from the Euro 2008 squad
For Euro 2008, the coach selected Bafétimbi Gomis ahead of Cissé. Cissé’s own account, as reported by Eurosport, treats this as the third tournament he missed.

The Bastia judgment of November 2024
The legal episode is often summarised as a tax case, which is inaccurate. The court in Bastia convicted Cissé on two financial offences and acquitted him on two others. Keep those outcomes separate.
What the court convicted him of
On 13 November 2024, the Bastia criminal court imposed an eight-month suspended prison sentence and a €20,000 fine for misuse of company assets and failure to record accounting entries, according to L’Équipe reporting with AFP. Reporting said his lawyer indicated there would be no appeal.
What the court acquitted him of
The same court acquitted him of tax fraud and money laundering. In L’Équipe’s report on the judgment, he said: “J’ai toujours dit que je n’avais pas fraudé le fisc et la justice m’a donné raison.” In English: “I always said I had not defrauded the tax authorities, and the justice system proved me right.” That remark concerns the acquittal on those charges. It does not alter the convictions.
Allegations versus findings
Some coverage cited a company account balance of €550,000 as part of the case. That figure comes from a separate report about the investigation. It is not a finding of the court, so treat it as an allegation reported in the press rather than an established fact.
Life after playing: coaching at Auxerre
Cissé’s coaching role was the most concrete post-playing position reported. Ligue 1’s November 2024 account quotes him describing the job without the language of a conventional tactician:
“In fact, I don’t see myself as a coach, but as a ‘big brother’, who teaches them tricks and passes on his experience to them.”
That is a description from late 2024. Check the club’s current staff listings before assuming the role continues into 2026.
DJ Tcheba
L’Équipe’s May 2025 profile identifies Tcheba as the DJ pseudonym Cissé uses. Treat “DJ Tcheba” as a documented stage identity. The reporting does not establish how often he performs, where he is booked, or whether he has representation for club or private events.

Eurosport’s interview names Cissé as the author of Ma vie de footballeur, and he discusses the book’s account of his career, including the red card and the missed tournaments. It is the most direct first-person source on those episodes. Check retailers in your market for current availability and edition details, which we did not verify.
