CBS’s 48 Hours reported that Metzer was concentrating on raising her children, had sought therapy, and hoped to raise awareness about abusive relationships. That is the latest reviewed public account of her personal life, not confirmation of her circumstances today. The sources reviewed do not establish her exact current location or a more recent detailed update. Netflix published a later article about the case and film on March 25, 2026, but it is not a new personal interview with Metzer. Avoid treating her stated hopes as proof that she holds a formal advocacy role or runs an organization.
What happened to the real Morgan Metzer?
Metzer and Rodney Metzer met as teenagers—she was 14 and he was 17, according to CBS—and their relationship lasted about two decades before they divorced. The attack took place on New Year’s Day 2021, shortly after the divorce. Investigators examined inconsistencies in Rodney Metzer’s account and evidence that included his purchase of zip ties roughly 36 hours before the attack, CBS reported.

Rodney Metzer pleaded guilty on August 4, 2021, to 14 counts related to the attack and photos found on his phone. CBS reported that he received a 70-year sentence: 25 years in prison followed by 45 years of probation. See CBS’s case report.
