That first Sandringham home was described as temporary. No official statement has named his permanent property, and no date for the next move has been confirmed. The details below separate what the Palace has said officially from what has been attributed to news reporting.
Where he is living, and how certain each detail is
The table separates the location, the interim home and the permanent home, because the evidence for each is different.
| Detail | What is established | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Sandringham estate, Norfolk, the privately owned estate associated with the King | Associated Press, 4 February 2026, citing British media; Sky News, 4 February 2026; ABC News, February 2026 |
| Interim home | Wood Farm Cottage, described as temporary while his permanent home on the estate undergoes repairs | Associated Press, citing British media (4 February 2026); Sky News describes the residence as temporary, citing palace sources |
| Permanent home | Not stated. ABC News reported he would live permanently on the Sandringham estate, but noted the Palace had not commented on the move | ABC News, February 2026 |
| Date of move from the interim home | Not stated | No dated official statement found; the Palace announcement of October 2025 predates the move |
What the Palace has officially said
Two statements frame the story. Andrew’s personal statement of 17 October 2025 said that, after discussions with the King and family, he would no longer use his title or the honours conferred on him. He described this as going further than stepping back from public life. The statement is available on the Royal Household website, and its central line reads: “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.”
A Buckingham Palace statement issued at the end of October 2025 then addressed his home. It said that formal notice had been served to surrender the Royal Lodge lease and that he would move to alternative private accommodation: “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.” The statement did not name the destination. Its web address is dated 30 October 2025, while some outlets reported it on 31 October, so the exact day varies by source.

The move from Royal Lodge to Sandringham
The Palace statement did not say where he would go. In early February 2026, reporting filled that gap. The Associated Press reported that Andrew had left Royal Lodge and was living on the King’s private Sandringham estate, and that British media had identified his temporary accommodation as Wood Farm Cottage while his permanent home on the estate was repaired. The AP report attributes the cottage detail to British media rather than to an official announcement.
Sky News described the Sandringham residence as temporary, with a further move expected once final arrangements were made, and attributed that status to palace sources. Its coverage is available here. ABC News reported that he would live permanently on the privately owned Sandringham estate, but noted that the Palace had not commented on the move. Its February 2026 story is available here.

Read together, the reports agree on the location and on the idea of a temporary first home. They disagree on how settled the arrangement is, because ABC’s account describes a permanent home without a date and Sky’s describes a further move. Neither is backed by an official statement that names the property.
Title and residence are separate matters
The title decision and the housing decision have different sources. Andrew’s statement concerned his style, titles and honours. The Palace statement concerned the lease on Royal Lodge. Reporting that links the two as one event goes beyond what the official statements say, and the housing move should not be presented as an automatic legal consequence of giving up the title.

On the peerage, a House of Lords Library briefing dated 7 May 2026 records the removal of the Duke of York from the Roll of the Peerage and separates that matter from his place in the line of succession. The briefing’s wording about the dukedom is not fully consistent, so for the current status of the title, the Palace’s own statements are the more reliable guide. The House of Commons Library’s briefing on the removal of titles and honours explains the formal process in more detail.
Which name to use
Palace statements and some parliamentary material write the surname without a hyphen, as in Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. The House of Commons Library records that the Palace later said it would use the hyphenated form, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, going forward. When quoting, use the name exactly as the source prints it. In your own writing, the hyphenated form matches the Palace’s later usage.

What is still unconfirmed
- The name or address of his permanent property on the Sandringham estate.
- The date of any move from Wood Farm Cottage, if that move has taken place or is still planned.
- Any change to these arrangements after the February 2026 reporting, which is the most recent coverage cited here.
Because the most detailed reporting dates from February 2026, check the Royal Household’s news page at royal.uk for any later official statement before treating the interim arrangement as current.
