Where Are the U.S. ‘The Voice’ Winners Now? Careers After the Win (2026 Update)

U.S. The Voice winners have followed very different paths, from major-label albums and genre pivots to independent releases, Broadway, teaching and group touring. Here is what the reporting through April 2026 shows, with dates for each claim.

There is no single career path for a winner of the U.S. edition of NBC’s The Voice. Reporting through April 2026 shows winners releasing albums and singles, moving between major labels and independent work, touring, performing on Broadway, teaching, continuing as groups, and, in some cases, releasing music far less visibly. Winning gave each of these artists a platform. The coverage available does not show that a win guarantees sustained mainstream success, and most of the detailed status below is dated, so check the artist’s own channels before treating any of it as current.

Short answer

Most winners have stayed in music in some form, but the form varies widely. Some have released several albums on a major label, some moved to independent releases within a few years, some changed genre, some work mainly in theater or teaching, and some have had little visible release activity in the reporting covered here. Because sales, streaming, ticket and income figures are not published for winners as a group, this article compares careers by what can be observed: releases and their dates, label or independent status, live work, genre changes, group versus solo activity, and work outside recording.

How to read “where are they now” for this show

This is a feature about the U.S. edition of The Voice. International versions of the format have their own winners and their own histories, and they are not covered here.

The two most useful sources are both retrospectives written by entertainment reporters, not career-outcome studies:

  • Us Weekly, “The Voice Winners Through the Years: Where Are They Now?” (updated April 15, 2026). This is the most recent source. It says the show premiered in 2011 and has crowned 28 winners, and it names Alexia Jayy as the season 29 winner. It also includes career snapshots across seasons. Its figures are the magazine’s own count; check NBC if you need an official tally.
  • PureWow, “Where Are ‘The Voice’ Winners Now? Here’s What They’ve Been Up To” (published December 5, 2023). It covers winners season by season through season 23. Its present-tense language describes late 2023, not today.

Some reported details are plans rather than completed releases or roles, and some are historical tour or release dates. This article labels each one with its source and date. Where a source describes an album or tour as planned or in progress, it is not described here as finished.

The pattern across winners

The clearest finding is variety. Two winners from neighboring seasons can have taken almost opposite routes: one signing with a major label and releasing albums through the mid-2010s, the other leaving a label to work independently and releasing records on a self-directed schedule. The sections below group the main patterns.

Label moves and independent releasing

Several winners left the label that signed them. Javier Colon, the season 1 winner, signed with Universal Music Group after the show, later moved to Concord Records, and released Gravity in 2016, according to PureWow. Sawyer Fredericks, season 8, left Republic Records and Mick Management to work independently, releasing Hide Your Ghost (2018) and Flowers for You (2020), as Us Weekly reports. Tessanne Chin, season 5, departed Republic Records in 2015, according to PureWow. Brynn Cartelli, season 14, left Republic before her deal expired and signed with Atlantic, per Us Weekly.

A label deal is not always a straight line from signing to release. Sundance Head, season 11, had a Republic Records deal that was shelved while a partner was sought. He then signed with Wildcatter Records in 2018, and released Stained Glass & Neon in 2019, according to Us Weekly.

Colon’s explanation of his later move, quoted by PureWow from his official website in 2023, is useful for understanding why winners leave: “I wanted to make an album where I could be free to be myself, with no walls or boundaries. I wanted the freedom to be myself musically, and I was surrounded by people who encouraged me to do that.” The reporting does not date that statement, so it should be read as Colon’s account rather than a dated event.

Genre changes

Winners do not always stay in the genre that defined their audition. Cassadee Pope, season 3, is the clearest case in the reporting. Us Weekly lists Frame by Frame (2013), Stages (2019) and Thrive (2021), and says she announced in February 2024 a pivot from country toward rock. PureWow describes a separate step: a return to her pop-punk roots in 2022, the single “People That I Love Leave” in April 2023, and a pop-punk re-recording of “Wasting All These Tears” later that year. These are two different developments, reported by two outlets at different times, and should not be merged into one event.

Group careers

Groups can continue after a win. Girl Named Tom, season 21, was the first group to win, according to Us Weekly. The sibling trio signed with Universal Music Group and toured nationally in 2022, with tour dates running into spring 2023. Their path is a reminder that a win can support a band’s touring and recording rather than only a solo career. Josh Kaufman, season 6, has also been part of a group, The New Etiquette, while pursuing solo work, per Us Weekly.

Work outside a solo recording career

Some winners built careers around theater, teaching or community programs. Josh Kaufman performed on Broadway and, according to PureWow’s 2023 update, offered singing, guitar, songwriting and production lessons and workshops. Alisan Porter, season 10, moved into Broadway work, alongside the Alisan Porter Project and releases including the 2019 album Pink Cloud, per Us Weekly. Tessanne Chin, according to PureWow, was involved in the Voice Box children’s creative-development program in 2023. Acting has also appeared in the reporting: PureWow says Chevel Shepherd, season 15, announced acting work for 2024, and Maelyn Jarmon, season 16, had an acting role planned for the same year. Both are announcements, not confirmed outcomes.

Quiet or intermittent release activity

Some winners have released less often or less visibly in the period covered. Us Weekly reports that Maelyn Jarmon had a Republic deal, a single and live opening slots but no debut album as of its reporting. Carter Rubin, season 19, offered a plan in December 2020 that he later described through a TV Insider interview, as quoted by Us Weekly: “Well, Gwen has encouraged me to start writing some music, and that’s definitely what I plan on doing.” That statement describes his intentions at the time. PureWow later reports singles from him in 2023. A low release count in these sources reflects what was reported, not an explanation of an artist’s private circumstances.

Recent winners

The reporting used here gives little career detail for winners after season 24. Seasons 25 through 28 are not covered individually. Alexia Jayy, the season 29 winner named in Us Weekly’s April 2026 update, has not had enough time, or enough documented activity in these sources, to support a career history. Treat any claim about recent winners’ releases, tours or roles as unverified until the artist or label confirms it.

How to check a winner’s current status

Because the reporting above is dated, use these steps to confirm what an artist is doing now:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Start with the artist’s official website and verified social accounts. They tend to post release dates and tour announcements first.
  2. Check the artist’s current label or distributor. Label pages and press releases show whether a release was completed or only announced.
  3. For touring, look for a dated tour page on the artist’s official site or a ticketing page that names a current venue and date. An older tour listing does not prove a current tour.
  4. For acting or theater roles, check the production’s official page or the production company’s announcement, and confirm the run dates.
  5. For the show’s winner count or season lineup, check NBC’s official The Voice materials rather than relying on a retrospective.

When an announced album, tour or role cannot be found on one of these channels, describe it as planned or reported in the year it was announced.
