The cast of Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused went on to markedly different careers: some became major Hollywood names, while others built reputations in independent film and work beyond acting. The clearest detailed cast retrospective available here was published by Esquire in 2018, so its career notes are dated rather than a complete account of where every actor is in 2026.
What is Dazed and Confused about?
Released on September 24, 1993, Richard Linklater’s R-rated comedy follows high-school students on their last day of school and through one night in 1976. Focus Features lists the film’s runtime as 1 hour 43 minutes and credits Linklater as both writer and director. Its ensemble and classic-rock setting are central to the story. Focus Features’ film page and Universal Pictures At Home provide the official synopsis and credits.
A TV Insider retrospective published May 28, 2026, situates the story on May 28, 1976, and notes that the movie was filmed around Austin, Texas. That article’s accessible excerpt introduces the cast but does not provide a full, current career survey.
How the cast’s careers diverged
The official Focus Features cast list includes Jason London, Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, Milla Jovovich, Joey Lauren Adams, Rory Cochrane, Adam Goldberg, Michelle Burke, Anthony Rapp, Cole Hauser, Wiley Wiggins, Esteban Powell and Nicky Katt. Renée Zellweger also appears in the film. The detailed career snapshots below draw on Esquire’s retrospective, published September 22, 2018; they describe milestones reported by that date, not verified present-day employment or personal circumstances.

Careers that reached a broad film audience
- Ben Affleck went on to major acting and directing successes, as Esquire described in 2018.
- Matthew McConaughey became one of the film’s most recognizable breakout names. The cited retrospective focuses on selected cast arcs rather than offering a complete, current account of his work.
- Milla Jovovich became widely associated with the Resident Evil film series, a career milestone noted in the 2018 retrospective.
- Renée Zellweger, who had a small role, later earned major awards recognition and starred in the Bridget Jones films, according to Esquire’s account.
Independent film and ensemble work
- Parker Posey developed a reputation in independent cinema and appeared in the television series Lost in Space, as reported in 2018.
- Adam Goldberg pursued work across acting, photography, music and filmmaking, rather than limiting his career to screen acting.
- Jason London was still acting when Esquire published its retrospective in 2018.
A less documented path
- Wiley Wiggins was reported by Esquire in 2018 to be working in software and game development. That publication-era description is not confirmation of his work in 2026.
- Joey Lauren Adams, Rory Cochrane, Michelle Burke, Anthony Rapp, Cole Hauser, Esteban Powell and Nicky Katt are among the credited ensemble, but the available sources do not establish a comparable, up-to-date career account for each of them.
Why the film’s ensemble still draws attention
The movie’s later reputation grew beyond its initial release. In a 2003 GQ oral history, cast members and Linklater recalled auditions and the film’s emergence as a cult favorite after a largely ignored opening. Those are retrospective recollections, not neutral production records. At a tenth-anniversary screening, Linklater described his aim this way: “This is the drive-in movie that I had always wanted to make.”
The film’s official cast list captures the breadth of that ensemble, while the career paths that followed show why a single “where are they now?” answer can be misleading: the available documentation varies widely by performer.
