Season 2’s Player 001 is Hwang In-ho, the Front Man. He enters the games under the assumed name Oh Young-il, hiding his identity from Gi-hun and the other players.
Who is Oh Young-il?
Oh Young-il is the identity Hwang In-ho uses when he joins the games as Player 001. He is not a separate person: In-ho is the Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun. Netflix describes Young-il as the Front Man’s false identity, and the Korean Film Council likewise identifies Young-il as In-ho’s fake name.
By entering the players’ group under an alias, In-ho can take part alongside Gi-hun without immediately revealing who he is. The Korean Film Council says he conceals his real identity and motives while gradually trying to gain Gi-hun’s trust. The sources establish that he gets close to Gi-hun under a false identity; more specific claims about his private intentions should be treated as interpretation.

Is season 2’s Player 001 the same as season 1’s?
No. The number is reused, but the characters are different. Season 1’s Player 001 was Oh Il-nam, played by Oh Young-su. Season 2’s Player 001 is Hwang In-ho, who uses the name Oh Young-il and is played by Lee Byung-hun.
| Season | Player 001 | Identity in the games | Actor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season 1 | Oh Il-nam | Oh Il-nam | Oh Young-su |
| Season 2 | Hwang In-ho, the Front Man | Oh Young-il (assumed name) | Lee Byung-hun |
Netflix’s season 2 explanation distinguishes the Front Man/Young-il reveal from season 1’s Oh Il-nam reveal. Its behind-the-scenes page labels Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man/Player 001.

Why the reveal matters
In-ho’s alias allows him to move among the contestants while keeping Gi-hun unaware of his true identity. The contrast with season 1 also makes the shared Player 001 number easy to misread: it does not mean that the two seasons’ characters are the same person.
