Faith No More split in 1998, reunited in 2009, and went quiet after its last live performances in 2016. Now the band has confirmed it will play again in 2027: four co-headline shows with System of a Down in Australia and New Zealand have been reported. No new album or additional tour dates have been announced in the sources reviewed.
How Faith No More broke through
The band began in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1981 as Faith No Man, formed by Mike Bordin, Billy Gould, Mike Morris and Wade Worthington. After Worthington was replaced by keyboardist Roddy Bottum and Morris left, the group adopted the name Faith No More. Chuck Mosley joined in 1983, and guitarist Jim Martin replaced Mark Bowen. The band released its first album, We Care a Lot, in 1985. Faith No More’s official biography traces that early evolution.

Mike Patton joined in 1989, the year The Real Thing came out. Its single “Epic” broke through in the United States after its January 1990 release and heavy MTV video rotation, according to the band’s official biography. The biography says the album went platinum in the US, but does not identify a certifying organization or certification year.
Faith No More did not settle into one sound or lineup after that success. Angel Dust followed in 1992; Martin left in 1993. Trey Spruance played on 1995’s King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime, and Jon Hudson was the guitarist on 1997’s Album of the Year. The group’s official discography lists the albums and release years.

Why did Faith No More split?
The band broke up in 1998 after years of rumors and members pursuing other projects. On April 19, bassist Bill Gould circulated a statement describing the decision as mutual, as recounted in the official biography. The available accounts do not establish one definitive cause for the split.
What happened after the reunion?
Faith No More reconvened in February 2009 and decided to reform. The band marked the reunion with an official statement that hoped playing together would produce work “erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.” The statement is preserved on the band’s official news page.

The Patton-era lineup released Sol Invictus in 2015, its first album in 18 years, according to Pitchfork’s July 2026 report. The band continued playing live into 2016. Later performance plans did not happen: dates planned for 2020 and then 2021 were canceled. Reporting at the time said Patton cited mental-health struggles during the pandemic; SPIN’s 2026 coverage recounts the cancellation history.

In June 2026, Faith No More signed a long-term global live-entertainment agreement with Brazilian company 30e and teased activity for 2027, but no specific dates had yet been announced in SPIN’s June 16 report. Two days later, Gould told Kerrang the band expected to play in Europe, South America, Australia and the US, with shows likely to begin around January or February 2027. Those comments described expectations, not a confirmed itinerary.

The later announcement is more specific: Pitchfork reported four co-headline shows with System of a Down in Australia and New Zealand for January and February 2027. Those are the confirmed dates reflected in the coverage reviewed. Gould’s mention of other regions should not be treated as scheduled shows. No new Faith No More album has been announced, and further dates remain unconfirmed.
