The next two confirmed Godzilla theatrical releases come from two separate production tracks. Toho’s Japan-produced Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japan on November 3, 2026, and in wide release across North America on November 6, 2026. Legendary’s next Monsterverse feature, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is scheduled for theatrical release on March 26, 2027. Both dates are official announcements as of October 8, 2026, and the two films are not presented as part of a shared story.
The two confirmed films at a glance
Readers asking what Godzilla movie comes next usually mean one of two things: the Japanese-made series that began with Godzilla Minus One, or the American Monsterverse that began with Legendary’s films. The two are produced by different companies, and the official announcements treat them separately.

Japan: Godzilla Minus Zero
Premise and release
Toho and GKIDS have announced Godzilla Minus Zero, with Takashi Yamazaki returning as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor. The official franchise page lists a Japanese theatrical opening on November 3, 2026, and a wide North American release beginning November 6, 2026. The official synopsis says two years have passed since the events of Godzilla Minus One, and Japan is struggling to recover when a new threat appears. Beyond that premise, the official material does not describe the plot, so any further story detail would be speculation.

- Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films 1954?1975 Blu-ray Set
The near-simultaneous Japan and North America dates are unusual for a Japan-produced Godzilla feature. According to TOHO International, the November 3 Japanese date also matches the original Godzilla‘s Japanese theatrical debut in 1954 and the annual Godzilla Day observance. You can read the North American announcement on the TOHO International newsroom, and the film’s official page on Godzilla Official.
United States: Godzilla x Kong: Supernova

Beyond theatrical films
Toho’s Godzilla IP plan
Toho’s Mid-Term Plan 2028 treats Godzilla as an intellectual property business rather than only a film series. The company says it plans to invest approximately ¥15 billion in Godzilla IP development and expansion over three years. Its strategy describes console and mobile games, platform-agnostic visual content, expanded licensing and in-house products, and more Godzilla retail and amusement experiences. The company’s wording is: “GODZILLA will evolve from a visual content business into a broader IP-driven brand, strengthening its market presence.” These are corporate plans and progress statements from Toho, not dated commitments for individual products.

The anime series
Toho’s strategy progress material reports that a new Godzilla anime series was announced in December 2025. It is described as a story featuring a boy with the power of Godzilla. The material does not give a release date or platform. Its progress update is available in Toho’s Godzilla strategy progress materials.
Kai-Sei Era comics
The official franchise site has announced two Kai-Sei Era comic titles. Godzilla: Revenge of the Deadzone is a five-issue miniseries with a launch date of October 28, 2026. Starship Godzilla: Invasion X was announced with no launch date in the official announcement. These comics are licensed stories and are not presented as sharing continuity with either upcoming film. Details are in the Godzilla Official comic announcement.

- No Toho Godzilla feature after Godzilla Minus Zero has a confirmed title or release date in the official material reviewed.
- No Monsterverse feature after Godzilla x Kong: Supernova has been named.
- No Shin Godzilla sequel has been confirmed as an official project, so reports or fan speculation about one should be treated as unverified.
- No release date or platform has been set for the Toho anime series.
Neither franchise has been announced as ending with these films. The official announcements cover the next releases and Toho’s broader investment, but they do not describe the full long-term production schedule of either side.

How to check dates for your region
- For Japan, use the November 3, 2026 opening listed on the official Godzilla Minus Zero page, then check local cinema listings closer to the date.
- For North America, use the November 6, 2026 wide release date and the GKIDS distribution noted in the TOHO International announcement.
- For Supernova, treat March 26, 2027 as the announced theatrical date; regional openings may be added in later announcements.
- Recheck the official sites before publishing or booking, because announced dates are the most volatile part of this topic.
The most reliable way to compare the Japanese and American sides is to keep the tracks separate: production company, confirmed theatrical date, announced creative leads, and the status of non-film projects. Shared characters should not be read as a shared storyline unless an official source says so.
