Liam Payne’s last reported Snapchat updates were casual clips from his Argentina trip: breakfast and coffee, a sunny day, plans to ride horses and play polo, food, the room’s artwork, and joking exchanges with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. The Snapchat clips were posted on October 16, 2024, but the footage was filmed days earlier. His last reported Instagram post was a separate item, a photo with his former One Direction bandmates honoring filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.
What the Snapchat updates showed
Sky News reported that Payne spoke to followers about a “lovely day in Argentina,” said the group would ride horses, and talked about playing polo again. The clips also included a tour of the room where the couple was staying, breakfast and coffee, photos of holiday food, and comments on the artwork in the house.

The Indian Express quoted one clip directly: “Such a lovely day here in Argentina. This is the breakfast table, just enjoying coffee and breakfast even though it’s 1 pm.” It also reported a sunny-day image captioned “Happy I got some time away.”
The BBC’s October 17, 2024 report described similar content, including posts about food, polo plans, and jokes about Payne’s hair. Across these accounts, the material is light and travel-focused rather than a statement about his state of mind or plans beyond the trip.

The Instagram post was separate
The last Instagram post reported in coverage was a photo with Payne’s former One Direction bandmates, shared as a tribute to Morgan Spurlock, the documentary filmmaker and producer best known for Super Size Me. The Indian Express reported the caption as “Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock it was a pleasure working with you,” followed by a heart emoji. It is not part of the Snapchat story sequence and should not be grouped with the trip clips.
Snapchat and Instagram compared
| Item | Platform | Content | Date posted | Date filmed or created |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trip updates (Sky News, The Indian Express, BBC) | Snapchat stories | Breakfast, coffee, food, polo and horse-riding plans, room tour, exchanges with Kate Cassidy | October 16, 2024 | Earlier, in the days before October 16 (per Sky News and BBC) |
| Morgan Spurlock tribute | Instagram feed post | Photo with former One Direction bandmates and caption | Reported as his last Instagram post; exact posting date not stated in the coverage reviewed | Not stated in the coverage reviewed |
Why the filming date matters
Because the Snapchat clips were posted on the day Payne died, they are easy to misread as a record of his final hours. They are not. VRT NWS’s fact-check states that Cassidy appears in the footage and had posted on October 14 about returning to the United States, so the footage predates October 16. Sky News reported that Cassidy had posted about returning to Florida earlier that week, and the BBC reported that she had already left Argentina when the videos were made. Sky and the BBC both describe the clips as filmed days before they appeared.
VRT also notes that the 1 p.m. breakfast reference does not match the timing of the hotel manager’s emergency call later that day, which is one more reason not to treat the clips as a timeline of October 16. When writing about them, use “posted on October 16” and “filmed earlier,” and avoid phrases such as “recorded an hour before his death.”
What reporting cannot establish
No complete, authenticated archive of Payne’s Snapchat stories has been published in the coverage reviewed. The stories were ephemeral, so the public record consists of clips and screenshots reported by the outlets above. That means the exact order of every story frame, and the full set of items posted, cannot be reconstructed from reporting alone. Reporting also does not include relevant statistics about the posts, such as view counts.

Searching for the posts
Readers typically search for “Liam Payne’s final social media posts,” “Liam Payne’s last Snapchat video,” “what did Liam Payne post before he died,” or “Liam Payne’s last Instagram post.” The answers in the two sections above cover those questions: the Snapchat updates were trip clips, and the Instagram post was the Spurlock tribute.
For documentary readers, the Instagram item is the one with a direct link to film. Spurlock’s work included Super Size Me, and the bandmates’ tribute was a public acknowledgment of their working relationship with him.

Reporting in October 2024 from Sky News, The Indian Express, VRT NWS, and the BBC is the basis for everything above. Readers who need the exact wording of any clip should check those original reports, as quoted lines may differ slightly between outlets.
