WeGrow, Rebekah Neumann’s private school venture inside WeWork, closed after the 2019–2020 school year. Neumann later acquired rights to some of its curriculum and furniture, but not the WeGrow name or its former Chelsea site. The successor initiative, Student of Life For Life (SOLFL), was operating in Florida by March 2026; it is not a reopening of WeGrow.
What was WeGrow?
WeGrow was a WeWork-affiliated private school founded by Rebekah Neumann. WeWork announced the concept in 2017 for children ages 3 to 9, with a Chelsea, New York, location. The school launched there in 2018.
Its stated approach mixed standard academic subjects with arts, mindfulness, yoga and farming. The launch announcement described it as a “conscious, entrepreneurial school” intended to draw on children’s interests, local environments and the WeWork community. Those descriptions explain the school’s model and aims; they are not evidence of measured educational outcomes.
Why did WeWork close WeGrow?
On October 11, 2019, WeWork said it would operate the school through the rest of the 2019–2020 school year, then stop operating it as the company focused on its core business. A spokesperson told EdSurge that “as part of the company’s efforts to focus on its core business, WeWork has informed the families of WeGrow students that we will not operate WeGrow after this school year.”

The announcement came during a broader retrenchment following WeWork’s canceled IPO plans, as the company moved to sell or close businesses outside its core operations. That is relevant context, but WeWork’s stated reason for ending its operation of the school was its focus on the core business. The available reporting does not establish a more specific cause.
What happened to WeGrow’s curriculum and assets?
In 2020, Neumann acquired rights to WeGrow’s curriculum and some furniture. The reported sale did not include the WeGrow trademark or the Chelsea real estate, so it did not amount to buying back the school or its name.

Neumann planned to use some of the curriculum for a new initiative called Student of Life For Life (SOLFL), working with former WeGrow teacher Alexandra Duvall. A 2020 report described an intended pilot; it did not establish that the pilot began on schedule. Forbes reported WeGrow’s annual tuition at the time as $22,000 to $42,000 and its enrollment as about 100 students when closure was announced. These are reported historical figures, not audited totals.
What is SOLFL, and did WeGrow reopen?
SOLFL is the successor initiative associated with Neumann, but it is not WeGrow under a new name. By March 2026, Axios reported that SOLFL had been operating in Hollywood, Florida, for two years. The school’s reported curriculum integrates secular subjects with the Jewish calendar, in contrast to WeGrow’s broader public description of experiential learning.

Axios reported that SOLFL had about 80 elementary- and middle-school students and a waitlist of several hundred, citing school representatives. It also reported that SOLFL was seeking approvals for a proposed campus in El Portal. The Village Council had deferred an approval vote in January 2026, so the proposed site should not be described as open.
In that March 2026 account, Axios reported that SOLFL was not then participating in a statewide scholarship program; school representatives said they planned to accept scholarships at the proposed new location. That was a stated plan, not confirmation that the campus had received approval or that participation had begun.
