What changed after Charlie Sheen left Two and a Half Men?
Sheen’s most visible career rupture came in 2011, when he split from Two and a Half Men amid intense public attention. The Associated Press later placed that period within the unraveling of his career and the events he revisited in his memoir. It marked a major break in his public career, but it does not mean he permanently stopped acting.
The years that followed became part of a broader public story about addiction, recovery, and the consequences of his conduct. Sheen has since returned to those subjects in interviews and in accounts of his life, rather than leaving them in the past.
Is Charlie Sheen sober now?
Sheen has said he got sober in 2017. The Associated Press reported that account in September 2025, and Netflix’s May 22, 2026 interview described him as eight years sober. These are dated descriptions of Sheen’s own recovery account; they do not independently verify his medical status.

How he has described life after getting sober
At a September 2025 event, Sheen said fatherhood quickly became a central part of his life after he got sober, and that his children began coming to his home. That is his account of family life at the event, not a complete or independently established picture of his current relationships.
In the same AP report, Sheen reflected on accountability: “I’m a good guy,” he said. “Good guys sometimes do some bad things but the only way to stay a good guy is to own that (expletive) and move forward.”
How The Book of Sheen and aka Charlie Sheen tell the story
Sheen’s memoir and Netflix’s documentary offer two different ways to revisit his life. The memoir is his authored account; the documentary combines his story with interviews from people in his life and career. Neither format makes every recollection independently verified, so it is useful to distinguish Sheen’s perspective from reporting and from other interviewees’ accounts.

The clearest current picture in his public account is a period of sobriety and reflection, alongside renewed discussion of his life through the memoir and documentary. The sources cited here do not establish his current residence, provide a full current health picture, or identify a next acting project. Those details should not be inferred from the documentary or his recovery statements.
