What Wayans reportedly requested in 2018
BET reported that Wayans filed documents in Los Angeles on September 21, 2018, seeking to modify the existing custody orders. The report described the daughters as 13 and 15 at the time and said he wanted primary custody during the week. BET’s September 2018 report attributed the request and its details to the filing.

According to BET and The Blast’s coverage, Wayans raised concerns about the girls’ attendance and academic progress. BET quoted the filing as saying they were “suffering scholastically” because of their mother’s “inability to prioritize their education.” Those were allegations made in the filing, not findings by a court.
What custody arrangement was reported before the request
BET said Metoyer had primary physical custody and that both parents shared joint legal custody before Wayans sought a change. Physical custody concerns where children live; joint legal custody concerns parents sharing decision-making authority. The report describes the arrangement at that time, not necessarily the current one.

How Metoyer’s side reportedly responded
The Blast reported that sources close to Metoyer believed Wayans’s request was connected to child support. That was an attributed belief about his motive, not proof and not a court finding. The available coverage therefore records competing claims rather than an established explanation for the filing.
What is known about mediation—and what is not
BET reported that Metoyer was directed to attend child-custody mediation with Wayans on October 31, 2018. Its report did not give the mediation result, and the sources available here do not establish the case’s later disposition or a current custody order.

A May 2026 entertainment article asserts that Metoyer still had primary custody, but it does not document that claim with a court order. It is not enough to establish the outcome.
