The accounts were not consistent. ABC News reported Sambora’s denial of marital indiscretion. UPI also relayed a source’s claim that Sambora had not had an affair and had not asked for the pictures. The reporting does not establish who sent the images, what the sender intended, whether Sambora solicited or welcomed them, or whether an affair occurred.
Did Richie Sambora cheat on Heather Locklear?
The available reporting does not establish that he did. Why did Denise Richards enter the story?
Richards became part of the coverage months after the reported separation date. On May 5, 2006, the Associated Press reported photographs of Richards and Sambora together, including one showing them kissing, as well as Richards’s comments that her friendship with Locklear had ended. Richards said, “I wish Heather well. Unfortunately, our friendship had to dissolve and I’m sad about that.”
The timing matters: the divorce filing gave December 26, 2005 as the separation date, before the May 2006 coverage of Richards and Sambora. That later publicized relationship is not evidence that it caused the earlier separation.

The Associated Press reported that the divorce was finalized on April 11, 2007. Details concerning custody, visitation, and support were to be included in a proposed judgment kept private.
