Public reports linked Dakota Fanning and Henry Frye in 2017 and covered them together through May 2018. The sources available do not confirm when or why they stopped dating, or report a breakup announcement from either person. Fanning said she was single in a September 2025 interview, but did not connect that status to Frye.
What is publicly known about their relationship?
The public timeline comes from entertainment coverage and reported appearances, rather than a detailed account from Fanning or Frye.
October–December 2017: Reports and a New York sighting
In October 2017, Us Weekly reported that Fanning and Frye had been seen together, citing a friend’s Instagram post that described them as “lovers.” That was a third-party description, not a public confirmation from the couple.
On December 18, 2017, Us Weekly reported that they were photographed holding hands in New York. The article identified Frye as having studied at the University of Vermont, attributing that detail to his Facebook page.

February–May 2018: Later reported appearances
Elle’s later review of the relationship timeline says Fanning shared a Valentine’s Day picture of Frye in February 2018. Elle also identifies their appearance at the Prada Resort show in New York in May 2018 as the last time they were photographed together in public.
That May appearance is the last joint public sighting identified in this coverage. It does not establish that they broke up then.
Did Dakota Fanning and Henry Frye break up?
The reviewed coverage does not give a confirmed breakup date or quote either person announcing a split. Elle notes that Fanning has not said much about a potential breakup. The most accurate conclusion is that the relationship was publicly visible in 2017 and 2018, then disappeared from the public record; what happened privately is not established.
Why did they split?
No reason for a separation is established in the cited reporting. Without a direct explanation from either person, claims about incompatibility, career pressures, or any other cause would be speculation.
What did Fanning say about her relationship status later?
In a September 2025 Vanity Fair interview, Fanning described herself as single and said she had tried Raya for fun. She did not mention Frye or connect her later status to him, so the interview cannot be treated as an explanation of their relationship.
