Where the speculation began
A 2025 retrospective by El País recounts an early public interaction between Perry and Gaga, including Gaga’s reported response when asked about Perry’s song “I Kissed a Girl.” That exchange is evidence of a public comment, not evidence of a continuing personal conflict. The available accounts do not provide a complete chronology establishing a long-running dispute.
Why their names became linked in a legal dispute
A later episode drew attention when messages between Gaga and Kesha surfaced in reporting about Kesha’s litigation with Dr. Luke. In the messages, Kesha made an allegation about Perry, as recounted by the Los Angeles Times. The fact that the allegation appeared in messages discussed in a legal dispute does not make it a court finding or establish that it was true.
Contemporaneous reporting said Perry denied being assaulted and Dr. Luke also denied the allegation. The claim should therefore be understood as an attributed allegation alongside the reported denials, not as an established account of what happened.

What Gaga said about the messages
The Independent reported Gaga’s clarification that the messages were several years old and did not reflect her relationship with Perry. That clarification addressed how to interpret the messages; it does not establish what the artists privately thought or felt at every point in their relationship.

Entertainment Tonight reported that Perry and Gaga expressed support for one another after the documents attracted attention. That public response complicates the idea that their relationship was simply an ongoing feud, while not proving the nature of their private relationship.
Separately, ABC News documented Perry, Gaga, and Madonna posing together at the 2015 Met Gala. The photograph establishes that they appeared together; it cannot confirm or disprove a private dispute.
