Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt drives a BMW with no doors during the Rome chase in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Automotive coverage variously identifies the car as a BMW 5 Series or an M5, but the sources available do not conclusively establish its exact variant. The familiar “M5” label should therefore be treated as a reported identification, not a confirmed production detail.
Which Mission: Impossible film is it?
The doorless-car sequence belongs to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the film in which Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt. Paramount’s official film page describes Hunt and his IMF team pursuing a dangerous new weapon.
Paramount+ also has an official page for a film-related video titled “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One | The Biggest Stunt in Cinema History (Tom Cruise).” That page is not confirmation that the complete film is currently available on Paramount+ in every country. Check the local catalog for current viewing options.
Is the car really a BMW M5?
Automotive coverage describes the Rome chase car as a doorless BMW 5 Series, and some reports identify it more specifically as an M5. BMWBlog’s January 30, 2024 article says the car appears to be an F90 M5; its June 14, 2023 behind-the-scenes article also calls the doorless car an M5 F90. Those are secondary identifications, not an official BMW confirmation of the exact Dead Reckoning Part One vehicle.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For that reason, “doorless BMW 5 Series” is the cautious description. “M5” is a common reported label, but the precise trim is not settled by the sources cited here.
Why the BMW M5 and Fallout connection can be confusing
BMW Group’s official announcement does confirm an M5 in a Mission: Impossible film—but it is Mission: Impossible – Fallout, released in 2018, not Dead Reckoning Part One. The June 7, 2018 announcement named the M5 among several BMW vehicles in Fallout and described BMW as that film’s exclusive worldwide automotive partner.

That announcement establishes BMW’s involvement with Fallout; it does not establish that BMW officially partnered on or supplied the doorless car for Dead Reckoning Part One. The distinction matters when identifying the film car or describing the relationship between BMW and the production.
