Created by Tiffon “Pop” Dunn, the web series uses stories of family, conflict, crime and drug dealing to explore life in the community. Its episodes are a portrayal—not independent documentary evidence about every resident or the development as a whole.
What is Project Heat?
Project Heat is a web series produced by Show Up Films. The production company describes it as a look at life in New York City housing projects and lists episodes and city-specific editions on its Project Heat page. CBS New York identified Tiffon “Pop” Dunn as the creator and reported that the series focuses on Brooklyn’s Pink Houses.
The series’ release history depends on which milestone is meant. CBS New York and FOX 5 New York reported that its first episode appeared on Show Up Films’ YouTube page in May 2015; CBS said it had reached a second season by February 2016. Apple TV’s catalog lists 2017 as the release year and gives synopses for six Season 1 episodes. That catalog date is platform metadata, not a contradiction of the earlier YouTube debut, and it does not establish current availability in every country.
What does the series show about life in the Pink Houses?
The setting is the Louis H. Pink Houses, a development in Brooklyn’s East New York. The stories take up conflict, family concerns, crime and drug dealing. Those are themes and portrayals within the series, not a description of all residents or a verified account of present-day life in the development.

Scroll.in described Project Heat as a documentary YouTube series, but its coverage also discusses dramatized scenes and real-life incidents. Apple TV classifies it as a drama. The clearest way to understand the work is as a drama with documentary-style framing and real-life inspiration—not as reporting in which every scene independently establishes what happened.
Who created it, and why tell these stories?
Scroll.in reported that Dunn moved to the Pink Houses as a child. CBS New York said he moved there from Queens with his family while he was in high school, in 1988. In Scroll.in’s 2016 feature, Dunn described wanting the show to reach a worldwide audience so people could see what goes on in New York City housing projects. He also spoke about seeking change in the community and encouraging young people to dream big.

That perspective helps explain the series’ emphasis on stories from a place often seen from the outside. Its value lies in putting a particular community and its characters at the center; it should not be treated as a comprehensive portrait of public housing or as a substitute for independently verified reporting.
How does the series connect to Akai Gurley’s killing?
The first episode was linked in contemporary coverage to the 2014 killing of Akai Gurley in a Pink Houses stairwell by NYPD officer Peter Liang. FOX 5 New York reported that the first episode was about Gurley’s killing, and Scroll.in connected the series’ opening to the case. The killing was a real event; any dramatized treatment in the series remains distinct from the independently reported facts of the case.
