Lockhart’s young adult novel. Season 1 follows 17-year-old Cadence Sinclair as she returns to her family’s island after an accident left her with amnesia, trying to piece together what happened the previous summer.
What is We Were Liars about?
Cadence belongs to the wealthy Sinclair family, whose private island, Beechwood, lies off Martha’s Vineyard. After an accident and a gap in her memory, she goes back to the island and tries to make sense of her relatives’ accounts and her own recollections. Her closest childhood friends—the group known as the Liars—are central to the questions she is trying to answer.
The series is built around Cadence’s uncertain memory, so its mystery works best without advance plot revelations. The official synopsis frames the story around her search for the truth about the previous summer.
How many episodes are in Season 1, and when did it come out?
Season 1 has eight episodes. Prime Video released the full season on June 18, 2025, exclusively on the service in more than 240 countries and territories, according to its season listing and release announcement. The platform’s product page labels the title HDR UHD and classifies it as drama, romance, and heavy, with a 16+ designation; those are Prime Video metadata labels, not an independent content advisory.
