Zena, who married Alanjohn with Lucinda Light as celebrant and MC, described the experience in a PerthNow interview published on 1 February 2024. In her telling, Light was chosen for being fun and for understanding the couple, the ceremony felt personal, and guests responded well to her. This is one client’s account, not an independent assessment of Light’s service, and the interview does not cover current fees, availability or where Light works.
Why the couple chose Light
Zena said she and Alanjohn wanted a celebrant who would be easygoing on the day. Mutual friends introduced them to Light. Zena summed up the reason in one line: “We wanted someone who was fun and who got us.”
What the couple said about the lead-up to the wedding
The most specific detail in Zena’s account is a meeting before the wedding. Zena invited Light to spend time with them; they opened a bottle of wine, talked, and Light asked about how the couple had met and what their story was. Zena said that by the end of that conversation the couple felt close to her. She recalled: “She wanted to hear our story and to know us and asked really interesting questions.”
That is the part of the account most relevant to a reader weighing a celebrant. The ceremony was built from what Light learned in that conversation, according to Zena’s description, rather than from a template.

How Zena described the ceremony
Zena said she had given the ceremony little thought, because her attention was on the party and the setting. Her verdict on the day was that the ceremony felt “authentically ours.” She also said it felt like being married by someone who cared about them as people and about their relationship. These are her retrospective impressions of one wedding, not a promise of what another couple will experience.
How guests reacted
Zena’s most direct praise was for how guests responded: “Our family and friends loved her. She cracked jokes, she guided guests through the process.” She also said Light’s on-screen and real-life personas matched. Zena’s account is the only source for these reactions; no guest or third party is quoted.

What Light’s own service page says
Light’s official celebrant page describes the service in the provider’s own terms. The page says Light works with couples to build a ceremony around their story, values, quirks and relationship. It says she guides couples through legal requirements and official documentation, provides ceremony resources, and can stay on to MC the reception. The page also says: “I’ll guide you through every step, taking care of the legal requirements and official documentation, while helping shape a ceremony that feels authentically yours.”
The page displays testimonials attributed to couples, including Zena and Alanjohn, that describe a thoughtful planning process and a personal ceremony. The page is undated, and it is marketing copy, so it shows what Light promises rather than how consistently she delivers it.

What this account does not establish
- Representativeness. One couple’s interview is not a review set. Other couples may have had different experiences with the same celebrant.
- Quality. No regulator, court, standards body or independent wedding-industry authority is quoted on Light’s work. The praise comes from a client and from the provider’s own copy.
- Current terms. The sources give no fees, booking terms, availability or geographic coverage. Anything you read here about the service dates from February 2024 or earlier, and the provider page is undated.
- The television connection. The headline refers to Married At First Sight. The interview and the service page do not discuss any television work, so this article does not cover it.
Questions to put to any celebrant, using this account as a guide
Zena’s story points to a few things worth checking before you book, whichever celebrant you consider:
- Will you meet us before the wedding, and what will we talk about?
- How will you build the ceremony from our story, and can we see an example?
- Who handles the legal paperwork and official documentation, and what do you need from us?
- Will you also MC the reception, and what does that cover?
- What are your fees, what is your service area, and what is your availability for our date?
Those last questions are the ones the interview leaves unanswered, so they need to go directly to the celebrant.
