The Prime Video live-action adaptation of The Wheel of Time was canceled after three seasons, before it reached the Last Battle. Robert Jordan’s novels do have a completed ending: the final events unfold across the last three books and culminate in A Memory of Light.
Why the show’s Last Battle promise now feels unfinished
Sony’s official series page promoted the story with the line “the Last Battle approaches.” That describes the direction of the plot, not a guarantee that the television adaptation would run to its conclusion. Amazon’s guide identifies the series as an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s books, and its catalog lists three seasons. Amazon’s season guide provides the adaptation context and season listing; Sony’s series page carries the promotional wording.
Variety reported on May 25, 2025, that the series had been canceled after three seasons. The available reporting establishes the cancellation, but not a definitive public explanation from Amazon for why it happened. Variety’s cancellation report is the source for the date and status.
Where the novels reach the Last Battle
The books finish the story the show did not complete. A Memory of Light is Book Fourteen and the final volume in the series. Its publisher, Macmillan/Tor, lists the US edition as a 912-page paperback, ISBN 9780765325952, with an on-sale date of January 8, 2013. Macmillan’s edition listing gives those publication details.

The Last Battle is not confined to that final volume. Brandon Sanderson’s official series page explains that the concluding material was too large for one book, so it became The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light. Those books chronicle Tarmon Gai’don and Rand al’Thor’s final confrontation with the Dark One. Sanderson’s page puts the looming conflict plainly: “Tarmon Gai’don, the Last Battle, looms. And mankind is not ready.” Read Sanderson’s series page.
Choosing between the existing show and the completed story
| Option | Format | Does it reach the Last Battle? | Commitment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime Video adaptation | Live-action television; three seasons are listed by Amazon | No. The adaptation was canceled after three seasons, before the novels’ completed ending. | Three existing seasons |
| Robert Jordan’s novels | Fourteen-book prose series | Yes. The final arc spans the last three novels and concludes in A Memory of Light. | A long series; readers new to the saga may want the earlier books for context. |
The available sources do not establish a precise season-to-book correspondence, so the show’s seasons should not be treated as a direct substitute for particular novels. Amazon’s February 12, 2025 guide said the book series had sold over 90 million copies; that is Amazon’s figure for 2025, not a current 2026 tally. Amazon’s 2025 guide provides the sales figure.

Will another adaptation finish the television story?
GamesRadar+ has reported later development activity involving animation and a game. That secondary trade reporting does not establish a release date or show that either project will continue or complete the canceled live-action plot. Readers should not assume that the television version’s Last Battle is still on its way. GamesRadar+’s report covers those developments.

For the finished story, the dependable route is the novels: A Memory of Light is the final volume, but the Last Battle arc begins in the preceding books, and the saga’s earlier installments provide its context. The publisher’s listed paperback edition of A Memory of Light is identified by ISBN 9780765325952. The existing three-season adaptation remains a separate, unfinished screen version.
