What Kermit said to the graduates
The University of Maryland’s May 23, 2025, account describes an address about making connections, working together and staying connected to personal dreams. It frames Kermit’s message as a call to “leap together” and describes life as a “big, messy, delightful ensemble piece.”
Among the lines quoted in the university’s recap: “Life’s like a movie,” followed by “Write your own ending. Keep believing, keep pretending.” Kermit also joked, “I can tell you’ve all worked your tails off,” before a gag about a tadpole losing its tail. The address ended with graduates joining him for “Rainbow Connection.”

Why Kermit spoke at the University of Maryland
Kermit’s appearance recognized the university’s connection to Muppets creator Jim Henson, who graduated from the University of Maryland in 1960 as a home economics major. In its announcement, UMD said Henson made the original Kermit puppet from one of his mother’s coats and half a ping-pong ball.
