Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band began the 2024 World Tour leg on March 19 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. They opened with “Lonesome Day” and played 29 songs over nearly three hours. This was the start of the 2024 leg—not the beginning of the band’s broader touring run, which had started in Tampa in 2023.
When and where did the 2024 tour begin?
The 2024 World Tour resumed in Phoenix on March 19, 2024, after illness led to postponements of dates from the previous year. The band’s official announcement described the March return as the start of its 2024 schedule; its Phoenix recap called the show a “triumphant reboot.” Springsteen’s March 5 announcement and the official Phoenix recap establish the date and venue.
“Kick off” therefore means the opening of the 2024 leg, not the first show of the larger run: Springsteen and the E Street Band had already begun touring in Tampa in 2023. The announced opening U.S. leg included ten 2023 performances rescheduled into 2024 as well as a Las Vegas date.
What was the opening song?
“Lonesome Day” opened the Phoenix concert and the 2024 leg. The night’s sequence moved from that opener through rock staples, returning selections, a sign-requested encore moment, and a closing song from Springsteen’s later catalog.

How the Phoenix show fit into the tour
Phoenix was the first show after illness-related postponements, but the schedule extended well beyond that return. The March announcement outlined an opening U.S. leg, a summer return to Europe for 26 more shows, and a later North American return. That announcement described the planned tour as spanning 17 countries and ending in late November.

The official tour-history archive gives the retrospective count for the 2024 World Tour as 48 shows in 37 locations, with dates listed through November 22. These are different snapshots: the March announcement described the planned scope, while the tour-history page records the archived schedule. Across the first 11 shows, the official opening-leg recap counted 60 different songs, so the Phoenix setlist is a record of that opening night, not a template for every stop.
For listeners looking to explore Springsteen’s catalog, the official announcement also noted an 18-track career-spanning “Best of Bruce Springsteen” collection, released April 19, 2024, on CD and two-LP formats. It is a compilation, not a recording of the Phoenix concert.
