Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is an original, third-person, single-player action-adventure set in a dark-fantasy open world inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. Its gameplay was revealed on August 25, 2026, at Gamescom Opening Night Live, so the “gameplay reveal next summer” wording in the original headline is out of date. The official website still says “Coming 2027,” which is a release window rather than a set date.
What Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is
Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast announced Warlock in 2025 as an original game rather than a licensed port of a tabletop product. The announcement describes it as “an original third person single-player action-adventure game.” Creative director Jeff Hattem, speaking to PC Gamer in a December 12, 2025 report, described the project as an open-world, third-person action adventure focused on the warlock.
Setting and genre
- Genre: third-person action-adventure, played alone.
- Setting: a dark-fantasy open world inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
- Focus: the warlock as the player character, according to the reported developer comments.
Setting inspiration is not a rules adaptation
The D&D connection is to the world and its character concepts. It is not a claim that the game reproduces the tabletop rulebook. Hattem is reported saying the game is not trying to mechanically recreate D&D’s rules. That is a statement of design intent, not a guarantee about every system in the finished game, so readers should not expect dice rolls, character sheets or rulebook mechanics to carry over unchanged.
When is Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons coming out?
The official website says “Coming 2027.” The 2025 announcement stated a “planned launch in 2027,” and a later Hasbro investor communication describes the game as on schedule for 2027. No exact month or day has been announced, and no storefront release date had been published at the time of writing. Treat 2027 as a planned year, not a confirmed date.

Is Warlock like Baldur’s Gate 3?
The comparison is useful only on setting and franchise. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game built on the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules. Warlock, based on the reported developer comments, is an action-adventure that does not aim to reproduce those rules. A player who wants the rules-driven party play of Baldur’s Gate 3 should not assume the same experience here. A player who wants a D&D-flavoured single-player action game should read the announcement, not the rulebook, as the guide.
