In August 2024, Fightful reported that Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) had made All Elite Wrestling (AEW) a long-term television offer, and that an earlier offer had been “at least double” AEW’s previous TV deal. No dollar figures were published, so the doubling is a reported relative comparison from anonymous sources, not a verified valuation. The claim also does not say the newer offer doubles AEW’s current deal. It refers to an offer that came before it, and the baseline it was measured against was never publicly defined.
What Fightful reported in August 2024
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp published the report on August 28, 2024. It followed a meeting in Paris between AEW owner Tony Khan and WBD chief executive David Zaslav. The core points were:
- Sources at WBD confirmed that a recent long-term TV offer had been made to AEW, and AEW was reviewing it.
- A WBD source described the offer as “extensive.” The word was not defined.
- The sides were described as optimistic, but the report noted that process steps remained unresolved and that no announcement timing was known.
- Sources believed an offer that predated the most recent one had been “at least double” AEW’s previous deal.
- There were no public figures for AEW’s existing television deal, which had evolved over time. The comparison might also involve different programming or added elements.
Because the doubling claim attaches to the earlier offer, readers should not read it as a statement about the latest proposal.
Why “double” cannot be measured cleanly
A multiple only means something when both sides are fixed: the baseline deal and the package being priced. Neither is fully public, as the table shows.

Without matching hours and rights, a comparison of two offers would be comparing different products, which is the caution Fightful itself attached to the claim.

“At least double”
The phrase comes from anonymous sources close to the situation, as reported by Fightful in 2024. It was not accompanied by a dollar figure for either the previous deal or the offer.

The $185 million estimate
A Yahoo Finance article from 2026 described the 2024 AEW–WBD agreement as widely reported at about $185 million per year. That is a secondary estimate, not an official contract disclosure from either company, and it is not the figure for the earlier offer. Doubling it would produce a number the reporting never gives, so it should not be used as the basis for one.
Quotes
The available reporting contains no on-the-record statement from Khan or Zaslav about the value or terms of the offer. The “extensive” description is an anonymous characterization, and it should not be presented as a direct quote from either executive.

What later reporting adds
In May 2026, Fightful reported that AEW and WBD refuted claims that WBD had told Khan about a planned sale in summer 2025. The same report stated that AEW’s rights deal with WBD runs through the end of 2027, with an option for 2028. That establishes the contract term as reported in 2026. It does not confirm the value or structure of the 2024 offer.
Corporate changes at WBD should not be assumed to have altered AEW’s contract. The May 2026 reporting describes the term and the denials about advance notice of a sale, but it does not settle future programming decisions.
