Janel Grant’s federal lawsuit accused Vince McMahon, WWE and former WWE executive John Laurinaitis of sexual assault, trafficking and related misconduct. The latest procedural report located for this article says the federal case was dismissed with prejudice, while leaving the parties able to pursue claims and defenses in arbitration. That dismissal was not a ruling on whether Grant’s allegations were true.
What did Janel Grant allege?
Grant, a former WWE employee, filed her complaint on January 25, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. The defendants named in the complaint were World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon and former WWE executive John Laurinaitis. Source: court complaint
The complaint alleges sexual assault, trafficking, coercion connected to Grant’s employment and the sharing of explicit images. It invoked federal claims under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and the Speak Out Act, among other claims. These are allegations made by Grant, not findings established by the filing. What did the lawsuit seek?
Grant sought unspecified monetary damages and asked the court to declare a nondisclosure agreement invalid. The Associated Press reported in January 2024 that the agreement was for $3 million and that Grant alleged she had received only $1 million. Those amounts describe the reported agreement and Grant’s allegation about payment; they are not a court award. Associated Press

Was the federal lawsuit dismissed?
A report published July 27, 2026, says the federal action was dismissed with prejudice, while preserving the parties’ rights to pursue claims and defenses in arbitration under an agreement they had executed. The report also says the dismissal did not decide the allegations on their merits. Procedural-status report
In this context, “with prejudice” means the federal action was dismissed in a way that does not allow the same action to be refiled in that court. It does not, by itself, establish that the complaint’s allegations were true or false. The reported preservation of arbitration rights means the parties may pursue claims and defenses through that separate process under their agreement; it is not a finding of liability.

What remains unresolved?
The report describes the federal case’s procedural disposition, not a decision on the underlying allegations. It does not establish the outcome of any arbitration proceedings. The status described here is based on the July 27, 2026 report; a later docket entry or arbitration development could change the procedural picture.
