Danhausen was inside WWE’s mystery crate. The storyline began on Raw on February 16, 2026, and the crate was opened at Elimination Chamber in Chicago on February 28.
What was WWE’s mystery crate?
WWE introduced the crate as a storyline mystery on the February 16, 2026 episode of Raw. It was presented as large enough to hold a person, with instructions that it would be opened at Elimination Chamber on February 28 in Chicago. A contemporary preview laid out possible identities, but those suggestions were speculation rather than confirmed information. Read the preview.
Who was in the crate?
Danhausen was revealed when the crate was opened at Elimination Chamber, according to post-event reporting. WWE Shop later listed trading cards and event memorabilia connected to his Elimination Chamber debut, offering a separate official-store reference to the appearance. Why were fans guessing about other wrestlers?
Before the event, coverage floated possible identities, including Chris Jericho. Those were guesses made while WWE was withholding the answer, not reports that Jericho or another named wrestler had been confirmed for the crate. On February 27, Chris Van Vliet’s podcast captured the question in its title, “Who’s In The Crate?” A related episode listing used “What’s In The Box?” Both phrases referred to the anticipation before the reveal; the mystery has since been answered. Did the reveal satisfy viewers?
Eric Bischoff later said he had worried that the reveal might not satisfy the audience after WWE had built anticipation around the mystery. He also said Danhausen’s subsequent success surprised him. Wrestling Inc. quoted Bischoff: “What I didn’t anticipate — and where it doesn’t really matter if I was right or wrong — is just how well Danhausen has gotten over since he was revealed. That is surprising to me because they created a big mystery, they got the story anticipation, they checked that box — it’s all anybody was talking about. But the reveal, I was concerned, wasn’t going to satisfy the audience.” This is Bischoff’s assessment, not a measured statistic about audience reaction. Wrestling Inc.’s report, published April 7, 2026.
