Was Penta eliminated in the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble? A report published February 2 says a moment involving Rey Mysterio left that question open: Pat McAfee called for an immediate replay and invoked VAR, but the report does not establish whether Penta was out.
What happened between Penta and Rey Mysterio?
According to the February 2, 2025 report, Penta and Rey Mysterio were wrestling near the ropes when a Mysterio hurricanrana sent Penta toward the outside. The report says Penta’s feet appeared to touch the floor, prompting uncertainty among viewers about whether he had been eliminated. These details are attributed to the report; the available account does not provide independently verified footage analysis.
The report describes the broadcast commentators as saying only one of Penta’s feet had touched the floor. Pat McAfee called for an immediate replay and referred to VAR, or video assistant referee. No replay was shown during the broadcast segment, according to the report.
Was Penta eliminated?
The available account does not settle the question. It reports a disputed-looking moment and a call for replay, but it does not establish a definitive elimination ruling. It also does not show that WWE reversed a decision or used an official VAR system. Calling the moment questionable reflects the reported reaction, not an official WWE finding that an elimination was missed.

Why was VAR mentioned?
VAR is the video assistant referee system associated with reviewing decisions in soccer. McAfee’s reported reference framed the request for a replay as a demand to check the moment; it is not evidence that Royal Rumble matches use soccer’s VAR system or that a formal review took place.

This controversy concerns the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble, not the later event in Saudi Arabia. WWE’s official 2026 Royal Rumble page covers that separate event and lists Roman Reigns and Liv Morgan as the men’s and women’s match winners. Those results do not resolve the Penta incident.
