Who represented WA at Carols in the Domain?
PerthNow reported on 17 December 2025 that West Australian opera singers Claire Condipodero, Lachlann Lawton and Chelsea Burns would perform as part of The Young Stars of Australian Opera. Lawton and Burns are husband and wife. Their scheduled appearance was at Carols in the Domain in Sydney on Saturday, 20 December 2025.
The event was described in the report as being in its 43rd year. It also said Carols in the Domain had helped raise millions for The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal, without giving an exact cumulative total. These details are reported by PerthNow; the report is not an official event listing.
Why the performance mattered to the singers
Claire Condipodero’s childhood connection
Condipodero said she grew up watching Carols in the Domain, making the chance to perform there a personal milestone. She described the event as a highlight of her year and an opportunity to share Christmas joy while representing WA. “It’s such a beautiful and joyous event. For me, it’s really a highlight of the year to perform in Carols and share the joy of Christmas and represent WA,” she said, as quoted by PerthNow.

She also recalled the excitement of returning to an event she had watched as a child: “I’m really excited to be back. It’s just so much fun. And it’s an iconic event that I grew up watching. So to be part of it now is really special.”
A shared opportunity for Lawton and Burns
For Lawton, performing alongside his wife made the appearance especially meaningful. PerthNow quoted him describing singing with Burns as “a particular treat.” The report also noted that the couple had watched Carols together, though its attribution of a related quotation is internally unclear; that wording is therefore not assigned to either performer here.

The performers’ message after the Bondi attack
Lawton connected the event’s communal character to the period following the Bondi Beach terror attack. “Carols in the Domain has always been about coming together in song and joy,” he said. “After the Bondi attack, we need that now more than ever. Events like this are important to show everyone is welcome, no matter who you are or where you come from.”
Condipodero likewise hoped the performance could offer comfort and happiness during a difficult time: “It’s certainly not the easiest time of year for some, so hopefully we can spread some joy on the stage.”

PerthNow reported that Condipodero was to wear a red Steph Audino gown weighing 10kg. The figure refers to the gown as described in that 2025 report.
