During Pakistan’s 2019 tour of Australia, five players reportedly invited an Indian taxi driver to dinner in Brisbane after he declined to accept their fare. The story became widely known when ABC cricket presenter Alison Mitchell recounted the driver’s account during coverage of the first Test.
What happened in Brisbane?
The reported encounter took place during the first Australia–Pakistan Test in Brisbane in November 2019. The driver said he had picked up five Pakistan players from their team hotel and driven them to an Indian restaurant. When he refused to take payment for the ride, the players invited him to join them for dinner.
In a contemporaneous account, ABC presenter Alison Mitchell said the driver showed her a photograph of himself at the table with the players. The driver has not been identified in the reports, and the restaurant is described only as an Indian restaurant in Brisbane.
Which Pakistan cricketers were there?
A follow-up report attributed to leg-spinner Yasir Shah named the five players as Yasir Shah, Imran Khan, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah and Mohammed Musa. An earlier report independently named Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Yasir Shah, but did not identify the other two players.

How the story was reported
Mitchell recounted the driver’s story during ABC radio coverage of the Brisbane Test. The Logical Indian later published her account, including her description of the pickup and the players’ plan to eat at an Indian restaurant. That published quotation is a secondary report of Mitchell’s remarks; the original broadcast audio was not located in the sources reviewed.
The anecdote is therefore best understood as a reported account: Mitchell said the driver told her what happened and showed her a photograph. The contemporaneous reports reviewed do not identify the driver or restaurant.
