The date was established in 2004 to recognize entrepreneurs’ contribution to the country and to recall Hồ Chí Minh’s 1945 letter to Vietnam’s business community.
When is Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Day?
The annual observance falls on October 13. Vietnam established it through Prime Ministerial Decision 990/QĐ-TTg, signed on September 20, 2004. The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) says its president and business associations proposed the date. VCCI’s institutional history records the decision and its rationale.
Why is it celebrated on October 13?
The date recalls a letter Hồ Chí Minh sent to the Vietnamese business community on October 13, 1945. In it, he urged businesspeople to help build a strong national economy and financial system as the country worked toward independence.
“Trong lúc các giới khác trong quốc dân ra sức hoạt động để giành lấy nền hoàn toàn độc lập của nước nhà thì giới Công Thương phải hoạt động để xây dựng một nền kinh tế và tài chính vững vàng và thịnh vượng…”

Translation: “While other groups in the nation were striving to achieve the country’s complete independence, the business community had to work to build a strong and prosperous economy and financial system.” The passage is reproduced by the Uông Bí City government portal, which attributes it to the October 13, 1945 letter.
What does the day mean?
The observance recognizes entrepreneurs and businesses and provides an occasion for public appreciation and exchange. At a 2025 commemoration, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính called it “Ngày Tết của Doanh nhân,” meaning “the entrepreneurs’ festival day,” and described it as a time to honor businesses and share development experience. The Government of Vietnam’s account documents that event.

How is it celebrated in Vietnam?
Activities vary by year; the sources do not establish one required nationwide ritual. Official commemorations may bring together business leaders and public officials for meetings, forums, award ceremonies, or exhibitions. These events combine recognition with discussion of business development and national economic priorities.
Plans announced for 2026
On October 2, 2026, VCCI announced that its planned main event would be held on October 12 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi—one day before the annual observance. This is the scheduled event date, not a change to Entrepreneurs’ Day itself.

VCCI’s announcement described the following program as planned:
- A policy forum titled “Pioneering Entrepreneurs – Enabling Government in the New Era.”
- The 2026 Outstanding Vietnamese Entrepreneurs – Thanh Gióng Cup ceremony, with 100 entrepreneurs planned for recognition.
- An exhibition titled “Vietnamese Enterprises – Rising Together with the Nation in a New Era,” planned to include 25 booths.
VCCI forecast more than 1,000 attendees for the Hanoi event. Those figures and activities were announced as expectations and plans, not reported outcomes. The VCCI event announcement outlines the schedule and program.
How the 2026 award selection was to work
VCCI said candidates had to be nominated through an authorized organization. The planned selection process consisted of nomination, preliminary screening, appraisal, final selection, and recognition. Its stated considerations included lawful business activity, legal compliance, business results, contributions, innovation, digital transformation, and community responsibility.
VCCI Vice President Hoàng Quang Phòng described the values sought in recipients as “Liêm chính – Sáng tạo – Bản lĩnh – Hội nhập – Phát triển bền vững”—translated as “Integrity – Creativity – Resolve – Integration – Sustainable development.” This is an attributed description of the award’s values, not a separate definition of the national observance. VCCI’s Thanh Gióng Cup announcement provides the award context.
