Offworld Industries’ October 2024 announcement paired the release of Starship Troopers: Extermination on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with Casper Van Dien’s return as Johnny Rico. The launch also ended the game’s Early Access period: its full release arrived October 11, 2024, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Van Dien voices General Rico in the game’s S.O.G. single-player missions.
What Offworld announced
In an announcement dated October 9, 2024, Vancouver-based developer Offworld Industries said Starship Troopers: Extermination would leave Early Access and launch in full on October 11. That date also marked the game’s console debut on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside PC. Offworld’s announcement described the launch as a major expansion, adding a single-player mode, new enemies and locations.

The official factsheet credits Offworld as developer and PC publisher, and Knights Peak Interactive as console publisher. The announcement is historical; it is not a new release date or a report that the game is still in Early Access.
Casper Van Dien returns as Johnny Rico
Van Dien, who played Johnny Rico in the 1997 film Starship Troopers, reprised the role for the game. In the S.O.G. mode, Rico is a general who commands the player through a 25-mission campaign. Offworld’s launch announcement introduced the mode with the line, “Johnny Rico will be commanding the single-player game mode to be included in our 1.0 launch, alongside new enemies, locations and more.” The developer announcement and Xbox Wire’s launch coverage both describe the campaign as having 25 missions. The announcement also mentioned three original NPC allies.

How the game plays
The main experience is an online cooperative first-person shooter in which players fight Arachnids and build or rebuild bases. The PlayStation Store describes matches for up to 16 players, six playable classes and the Galactic Front campaign structure, where companies work toward collective goals and rewards. Offworld’s FAQ says modes can accommodate between four and 16 players, depending on the mode.
- Classes: Medic, Engineer, Guardian, Demolisher, Ranger and Sniper.
- Modes: Assault & Secure, ARC Slam, Horde, four-player Hive Hunt and S.O.G. solo missions. Offworld notes that mode names may change during development.
- Building: Players construct and repair fortifications as part of the battle, rather than simply moving through a conventional linear shooter campaign.
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5.3 and supports controllers, according to Offworld’s FAQ. Sony’s PlayStation Store listing provides the platform’s current product description.

Platforms, cross-play and progression
The game is listed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Offworld says players on all three platforms can play together, but progression does not transfer between PC and console. Cross-play therefore lets friends join the same platform-spanning matches; it does not mean a player can carry one profile’s unlocks and progress when switching between PC and a console. Offworld says the game’s content is canon to the Starship Troopers universe. Its FAQ also clarifies that the soundtrack is original: it pays homage to the 1997 film rather than using music from other entries in the franchise. These are the developer’s stated franchise and music details, not a claim that the game reproduces the film’s soundtrack.

What happened after the 2024 launch?
The October 2024 announcement explains the game’s full launch and Van Dien’s role, but it does not describe the game’s present update status. In a developer post dated August 13, 2026, Offworld said Update 12 was imminent, expected Update 13 in October with the Hopper Bug and an expanded building tutorial, and planned Update 14 for mid-December. Those were roadmap intentions at the time of that post, not confirmation that each update subsequently shipped. The dated post appears in the Steam developer announcements.
The Collector’s Edition was a past preorder offer
Offworld announced a physical Collector’s Edition produced and distributed with Limited Run Games. Its contents included a Federation flag, posters, stickers and a Warrior Bug figure. The stated preorder window ran from September 24 through October 27, 2024; the announcement does not establish whether copies remain available or whether the edition has been reissued.
