Valerie Bertinelli’s reported “favorite soup in the world” is tortellini in brodo: small tortellini served in broth. The dish is connected in later coverage to her grandmother, whom Bertinelli called Nonnie, and was also the subject of a cooking segment with Bertinelli, Antoni Porowski, and Drew Barrymore.
What is Valerie Bertinelli’s favorite soup?
It is tortellini in brodo, an Italian soup of filled pasta served in broth. The phrase “favorite soup in the world” is attributed to Bertinelli by an AOL report published in September 2026; it is not included in the official show listing’s description.
Why is the soup meaningful to her?
The AOL report ties Bertinelli’s affection for the dish to her grandmother, whom she called Nonnie, and describes the soup as a family preparation. That personal history matters: the coverage presents it as a remembered version, not as a claim that there is one definitive tortellini filling or recipe.
What happened in the cooking segment?
The Drew Barrymore Show’s official listing documents a segment published February 25, 2025, in which Bertinelli cooked tortellini in brodo with Antoni Porowski and Drew Barrymore. The listing says the dish was inspired by Justin Theroux’s favorite childhood dish; it does not provide a full recipe or transcript. Read the official segment listing.

How did the family version differ from Porowski’s?
The AOL report describes different fillings rather than a single fixed formula:
| Version described | Reported filling or method |
|---|---|
| Bertinelli’s grandmother’s version | Pork, steak, and ground beef, according to the AOL report. |
| Porowski’s demonstrated version | Pork loin, prosciutto di Parma, garlic, and Parmesan, pulsed into a paste in a food processor. The report describes wrapping pasta dough into small triangles around a finger to form “little hats.” |
These are details from editorial coverage, not an official recipe card. The show’s listing confirms the segment and dish but does not independently verify the family history or ingredients.

- This favorite Bear Creek soup tastes like it simmered for hours not minutes.
- Loaded with hearty pinto and red beans, carrots, celery and tomatoes.
- Try adding chicken and zucchini.
- Easy to prepare mix, just add water.
- Bring home a little comfort
Can you use store-bought tortellini?
Yes. The AOL report says prepared tortellini and broth can stand in for making both from scratch. That shortcut lets you serve the same broad style of soup without mixing filling or shaping pasta. No brand recommendation is established by the coverage.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would making the tortellini from scratch involve?
In the approach described by AOL, the filling is pulsed in a food processor, then enclosed in small pieces of pasta dough shaped into tortellini. The report’s description gives a sense of the method, but it does not establish exact ingredient quantities, yield, or cooking time. The official show listing also does not publish those recipe details, so neither source supports presenting a precise recipe as Bertinelli’s or the show’s.
