Universal said it had passed Jurassic World in September 2026; exact totals differ between box-office trackers, so any figure needs a source and snapshot date.
What is Universal’s highest-grossing movie?
Universal Pictures named Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey its biggest film of all time in a September 25, 2026 announcement. The studio had said on September 12 that the film surpassed 2015’s Jurassic World. Universal’s September 12 announcement and its September 25 announcement establish the record-holder claim.
For this comparison, “top-grossing” means cumulative worldwide theatrical box-office gross in nominal dollars. It does not mean inflation-adjusted earnings, ticket sales, studio profit, or revenue from home entertainment and other distribution windows. The Numbers describes its all-time chart as a ranking by worldwide box-office earnings.
Reported worldwide totals vary by tracker
Both trackers reviewed on October 8, 2026 place The Odyssey ahead of Jurassic World, but their reported totals are not identical. These are separate chart snapshots, not a single source-independent figure.

| Tracker and snapshot | The Odyssey | Jurassic World |
|---|---|---|
| The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026 | $1,769,683,138 worldwide | $1,671,063,641 worldwide |
| Box Office Mojo, offset-one chart accessed October 8, 2026 | $1,753,877,510 worldwide | $1,671,537,444 worldwide |
Totals can differ across published charts and snapshots. For example, Universal’s September 12 announcement gave The Odyssey a $1.685 billion worldwide weekend estimate; on September 25, the studio described it as having reached $1.7 billion worldwide. Those dated studio statements serve a different purpose from a tracker’s later chart total.
Use one tracker consistently when comparing ranks or figures. The The Numbers worldwide all-time chart and Box Office Mojo’s worldwide chart show worldwide, domestic, and foreign totals; do not mix a rank from one chart with a total from another.

What the record says—and what it does not
The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient poem, according to Universal’s September 12 announcement. Readers interested in the source text can look for a print edition of The Odyssey; the poem is context for the film, not a film companion or a guarantee of how the adaptation tells the story.
The gross ranking is not an inflation-adjusted comparison with older Universal releases, nor a count of how many people saw each movie. A nominal-dollar chart answers which title has the largest reported cumulative theatrical gross under its stated measure; it does not by itself compare historical ticket-buying power or attendance.
Why the ranking should be checked again
Box-office charts can change as reported grosses are updated, and the cited figures are dated snapshots accessed October 8, 2026. Universal’s September announcements independently identify the film as the studio record-holder at those dates, while the tracker pages provide their own current chart totals. For a later comparison, consult the chosen chart and note its access date rather than treating these values as permanent.
