What Universal announced
In its January 20, 2026 announcement, Universal Orlando said Hollywood Drift would join Universal Studios Florida in 2027 and that Supercharged would permanently close that year. The release gives a year for both changes, not an exact opening or closure day. Universal Orlando Resort said further information would follow.

The announcement describes Hollywood Drift as an outdoor coaster built around the sensation of 360-degree drifting. It also highlights a 170-foot vertical spike that will send riders nearly 17 stories over the outskirts of Universal CityWalk. These are the Orlando ride details Universal disclosed in that release; more extensive specifications published for the California attraction should not be assumed to apply to Florida.
Which ride is being replaced?
Universal identifies Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit as the roller coaster Hollywood Drift replaces. Separately, it says Supercharged will close “as Universal Studios Florida makes way for this exciting new experience.” The statement ties the closure to the park making way for the new experience, but does not say that Hollywood Drift will use Supercharged’s precise footprint.

When will Supercharged close?
Universal’s official announcement specifies a permanent closure in 2027 but does not give a day. A July 15, 2026 CinemaBlend report said an annual-passholder Instagram notice gave August 16, 2026 as the expected final operating day. That is secondary reporting about an expected date, not a dated Universal press release; it should not be confused with the official announcement’s 2027 closure year.
The exact current operating status and any later schedule update are not established by the cited official announcement. Visitors planning around the attraction should check Universal Orlando’s latest park information rather than rely on an older report.
Do not confuse Orlando with Hollywood, California
Hollywood Drift is planned for Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, while a separate attraction with that name opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in California on September 16, 2026, according to NBCUniversal. That date is for California, not Orlando. The California installation’s published ride specifications likewise describe that park’s version and do not establish the Orlando coaster’s full design.

Universal Orlando announced that Fast & Furious – Supercharged opened at Universal Studios Florida on April 23, 2018. Its launch announcement presented it as an immersive attraction based on the film series. Universal’s 2018 release gives the opening date.
