Ubisoft has canceled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake as part of a six-game portfolio cut announced on January 21, 2026. The remake’s development ended because its team could not reach the quality level it wanted and said continuing would require more time and investment than Ubisoft could responsibly commit. The company did not identify the other five canceled projects.
Why was the Prince of Persia remake canceled?
In a statement dated January 30, 2026, the game’s team said it had stopped development. It explained: “While the project had real potential, we weren’t able to reach the level of quality you deserve, and continuing would have required more time and investment than we could responsibly commit.” Ubisoft’s team statement
That is the team’s explanation of the project-level decision. Ubisoft’s January 21 announcement separately described a company-wide review of its content pipeline and a more selective approach to deciding which games to pursue. The company said the review took place over December 2025 and January 2026 as it finalized a new operating model. Ubisoft’s January 21 announcement
What other games did Ubisoft cancel?
Ubisoft’s announcement named the remake but not the other projects. It said the six discontinued games comprised:

Is Ubisoft abandoning Prince of Persia?
Ubisoft said the cancellation does not mean it is leaving the franchise. The team wrote: “Prince of Persia as a universe and a legacy continues to matter deeply to us, and this decision does not mean we’re stepping away from the franchise.” That signals the company’s stated position, but the announcement does not confirm another Prince of Persia game or provide plans for one.

The cancellation was part of a broader portfolio and organizational change, not an announcement limited to this game. Ubisoft said it gave seven other games additional development time; one unannounced title originally planned for fiscal year 2026 moved to fiscal year 2027. It also outlined a new operating model built around five Creative Houses, supported by a Creative Network, Core Services, and a reshaped headquarters. The company said that model would begin operating in early April 2026.
