Tru Valentino will not return as a series regular for season seven of ABC’s The Rookie, according to a TVLine report published August 9, 2024. The same day, Valentino posted a grateful Instagram Story that thanked the cast and fans and suggested viewers might see his character, Officer Aaron Thorsen, again. He did not give a reason for leaving, and the reporting available does not establish one.
What Valentino said in his message

“I will always cherish my time on The Rookie, but couldn’t be more excited for what the future has in store. I adore the friends and relationships made while being there. It was such an amazing opportunity, and I feel so lucky to have had the last three seasons. Thank you to the best fans in the world. I know I don’t talk much, but I appreciate you all so much. You never know who may pop back up in the Mid-Wilshire precinct. Until then, 7 Adam 19, this is Officer Thorsen, over and out!”
Three things stand out in the wording. He frames the time on the show as a gift (“such an amazing opportunity”), he names the cast relationships and fans rather than any production decision, and his closing line uses the character’s radio call sign, 7 Adam 19, with the Mid-Wilshire precinct reference that keeps a return open without promising one.

Who Aaron Thorsen is in the show
Valentino played Officer Aaron Thorsen. The character’s status on the show changed over several seasons, as the sequence below shows.
| Date | What the reporting or official listing establishes | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Season four | Thorsen begins as a recurring character. | Reporting on Valentino’s role history |
| Season five | Valentino is promoted to series regular. | Reporting on Valentino’s role history |

| August 9, 2024 | TVLine reports Valentino will not return as a series regular for season seven and publishes his Instagram Story message. | TVLine, Andy Swift |
| January 7, 2025 | The season-seven premiere explains Aaron’s absence: he has transferred to North Hollywood. | TV Insider, Meredith Jacobs recap of the season-seven premiere |
The table separates two stories that are easy to blur together. The first is the in-show explanation for Aaron’s absence, which the season-seven premiere supplied. The second is the real-world casting decision, which none of the reviewed reporting explains.

How the show accounted for Aaron’s absence
In the season-seven premiere, characters Nolan and Celina say Aaron is now working in North Hollywood. That is a story-level transfer. It tells viewers where the character went, but it does not say whether Valentino chose to leave, whether the production changed its plans for the role, or whether any contract issue was involved. Those are separate questions from the fictional transfer, and the premiere recap does not answer them.
What is and is not established
The reporting supports the following points:
- Valentino was not returning as a series regular for season seven, according to TVLine’s August 9, 2024 report.
- His own message thanks the cast and fans, expresses excitement about what is next, and leaves open the possibility of a future appearance in the Mid-Wilshire precinct.
- Aaron Thorsen moved to North Hollywood in the storyline, as the season-seven premiere established.
The reporting does not establish any of the following:
Rank #3
- Factory sealed DVD
- Why Valentino left the series.
- Whether the departure was his decision, the production’s decision, or a mutual arrangement. Describing it as a firing, a voluntary exit, or a permanent departure goes beyond the evidence.
- Whether the show or ABC issued an explanation for the casting change. No such statement appears in the reviewed material.
- Whether Aaron Thorsen will return. Valentino’s message suggests a possible future appearance, but it is not a confirmed return.
Reading the message as a possible return
Valentino’s closing line is the only forward-looking element in his statement, and it is worded as a possibility: “You never know who may pop back up in the Mid-Wilshire precinct.” Taken alone, it signals openness rather than a plan. Readers looking for a confirmed storyline or an announced guest appearance should treat that line as a fan-facing sign-off, not an announcement.
This article reflects reporting from August 2024 and January 2025. It does not cover developments after those dates, so readers should check current coverage from TVLine, TV Insider, or ABC for any later announcement about the character or Valentino’s involvement with the series.
Rank #4
Valentino’s exit is also not a story about a product or purchase. Its value to readers is in the distinction between what he said, what the show later established about Aaron, and what remains unexplained.
