In August 2024, Donald Trump shared images on Truth Social suggesting Taylor Swift and her fans supported his campaign. Several images of women in “Swifties for Trump” shirts were AI-generated, and the image purporting to show Swift endorsing Trump was fake. But the collection also included a real photograph of one Trump supporter in a homemade shirt. Swift had not endorsed Trump when the images circulated.
What Trump shared
On August 26, 2024, CBS News reported that Trump had shared a Truth Social post containing a collage of images presenting Swift and her fans as supporters of his presidential campaign. The collection combined synthetic imagery, a fabricated endorsement image and photographs of a real supporter. CBS News described several of the shirt photos as AI-generated and the purported Swift endorsement as fake.

Which images were real?
AI-generated fan images
Several images showed women wearing “Swifties for Trump” shirts, but reporting identified them as AI-generated rather than documentary photographs. WIRED covered the images on August 19, 2024, and CBS News reported on the collection the following week. WIRED
The fake endorsement image
An image presented as Taylor Swift endorsing Trump was also fabricated. Lead Stories traced that image to an X post published August 17, 2024, and concluded Swift had not endorsed Trump. Lead Stories’ fact-check addresses the false endorsement claim.

A genuine supporter photograph
Not every image in the material was fake. WIRED identified a real photograph of Jenna Piwowarczyk wearing a homemade “Swifties for Trump” shirt at a Trump rally in Racine, Wisconsin, in June 2024. CBS News and Lead Stories also identified the image as a real supporter photograph. It establishes that at least one person attended in such a shirt; it does not establish how many Swift fans supported Trump or whether there was a large, organized movement.
Did Taylor Swift endorse Trump?
No. Swift had not endorsed Trump when the images circulated in August 2024, according to contemporaneous fact-checking by Lead Stories and reporting by NPR. The claim that she endorsed him was based on a fake image, not an announcement from Swift. NPR noted that Swift had endorsed Joe Biden over Trump in 2020; that is separate from the 2024 episode. Why the satire framing does not make the images evidence
The Washington Post reported that some images in the original X post, a screenshot of which Trump shared, carried a “satire” label. TIME reported that the post’s alt text said, “There is no Swifties For Trump movement – but there should be.” The Washington Post and TIME provide this context. A satire label or joke in a post does not turn AI-generated images into authentic photographs, nor does it show how representative any political view is among Swift’s fans.
TIME also reported follower counts for unofficial pro-Trump and pro-Harris fan accounts at the time. Those were snapshots of specific accounts in 2024, not a survey of Swift fans or a reliable measure of their political preferences.

What the images can—and cannot—show
- They can show: Trump shared a mix of fabricated and authentic imagery, including at least one real supporter’s photograph.
- They cannot show: that Swift endorsed Trump, that most Swift fans supported him, or that a broad, coordinated “Swifties for Trump” movement existed.
