In a statement to Variety, Jackson called “Streets of Minneapolis” a song with “irrelevant opinions and inaccurate information” and said the administration’s priority was cooperation with federal law enforcement on immigration enforcement.
What did the White House say about Springsteen’s song?
Jackson made the remarks in a statement to Variety, published January 30, 2026. She said the administration was focused on encouraging state and local Democrats to work with federal law enforcement officers to remove what she called “dangerous criminal illegal aliens,” rather than “random songs with irrelevant opinions and inaccurate information.” Variety reported the statement.
Jackson added: “The media should cover how Democrats have refused to work with the Administration, and instead, opted to provide sanctuary for these criminal illegals.” Both statements reflect Jackson’s characterization of the administration’s priorities and the political dispute; they were not direct quotations from Trump.
What was Springsteen’s song about?
Springsteen released “Streets of Minneapolis” on January 28, 2026. In a statement accompanying the song, he said he wrote it in response to what he called “the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis.” He dedicated it to Minneapolis residents, “our innocent immigrant neighbors,” and the memories of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Pitchfork reproduced Springsteen’s statement.

The two sides described the subject differently: Springsteen presented the track as a response to events and conditions in Minneapolis and as a dedication to people affected; Jackson emphasized the administration’s stated aim of working with local and state officials on immigration enforcement, while dismissing the song’s opinions and accuracy. Those are their respective stated positions.
