Tron: Ares brought two announcements to D23 in August 2024: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails would make the film’s music, and attendees would see an early look that Disney described as “in-room-only.” The film later reached theaters in 2025, and its 24-track soundtrack was released that September.
What happened at D23?
Disney’s D23 recap places the presentation on Friday night, August 9, 2024, at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Jared Leto arrived on a Lightcycle with cast members Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters. The cast discussed their characters, and attendees were shown an early look that the recap specifically calls “in-room-only.”
That wording matters: the official recap establishes that the footage was shown to people in the room, but does not say that this particular first-look footage was later released publicly. It is safest to distinguish the D23 screening from any trailers or other promotional material released separately.
Who made the music for Tron: Ares?
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the musicians behind Nine Inch Nails, were named as the film’s music-makers at D23. Director Joachim Rønning explained the choice in a D23 interview: “It’s been a very short list over the years, and Nine Inch Nails were always on it—and I think we just realized more and more, as the script and the movie were coming together, that they’d really be perfect for it.”

Disney later described the soundtrack as the first film score composed under the Nine Inch Nails band name. The album was released through Polydor Records on September 19, 2025, and contains 24 tracks, according to Disney UK’s soundtrack announcement. The first single, “As Alive as You Need Me to Be,” came out July 17, 2025; Disney’s production notes call it the band’s first official new music in five years.
The soundtrack continues the series’ association with distinctive electronic film music. Executive producer Russell Allen acknowledged the standard set by the earlier films in Disney’s production notes: “It’s a hard act to follow the previous ‘TRON’ soundtracks, as they were very well received. I think people will talk about the music of ‘TRON: Ares’ the same way they talked about the music of the previous ‘TRON’ movies.”
