The original TRON (1982) and TRON: Legacy (2010) were remastered in 4K and released on 4K Blu-ray, with a reported release date of September 12, 2025, ahead of TRON: Ares. That timing has passed. Ares reached U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025, and its Blu-ray followed on January 6, 2026. As of October 2026, the remasters are a purchasable physical-media option, not a new release, and they do not offer a new digital world to explore.
What the 4K releases are
The package covers two films. TRON is the 1982 original, and TRON: Legacy is its 2010 sequel. Both were described as newly remastered in 4K and released on 4K Blu-ray in 2025. The September 12, 2025 date and the 4K remaster wording come from a report by Collider, carried through an IMDb news excerpt. That report is secondary, so confirm the exact date and edition on the distributor’s or retailer’s listing before buying.
The sources available for this article do not establish disc specifications such as video master resolution, HDR format, audio tracks, or extras. Read the packaging or product page for those details, and check regional coding against your player.

How to buy the 4K discs
- Search for the titles as listed: “TRON 4K Blu-ray” and “TRON: Legacy 4K Blu-ray.” Keep the two films separate so you do not buy a single-title edition by mistake.
- Confirm the listing says 4K. Standard Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray editions are sold side by side, and a standard disc will not play 4K content.
- Check the region code and whether the edition is sold in your market. Availability and pricing vary by retailer, and the sources for this article do not confirm current stock or prices.
- If you already own Ares on digital, confirm which edition or platform it is attached to before you buy a physical copy.
Experiencing TRON in person
Disney also offers an in-person route. Lightcycle / Run at Walt Disney World and Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disney Resort are the two attractions Disney names for experiencing TRON. Disney’s Walt Disney World Press Room (2023) gives these figures for the Walt Disney World attraction:

Merchandise
Disney Parks documents TRON merchandise in several categories: attraction and film apparel, collectible pins, toys, illuminated and light-up accessories, backpacks, and illuminated wall signs. Taryn Johnson, Senior Manager for Brand Merchandising with Global Product Creation, described the collections in the Disney Parks Blog as having “a dash of 1980s nostalgia mixed with incredibly fun items.” These categories are documented, but the sources do not establish what is in stock now, so check current availability directly with Disney Parks.

What the filmmakers said about Ares
At D23, Jeff Bridges said, “What a perfect time for the TRON world to be revisited,” and then clarified, “Or, I should say, for the digital world to visit us, because our plot does involve an A.I. program coming into the real world.” Director Joachim Rønning said, “Cinema is my art form,” and that the TRON universe “lends itself to the big screen, and the bigger the better.” Both statements are from The Walt Disney Company’s D23 coverage. They explain why the franchise’s theatrical identity matters, which is also why the home-video releases are a different experience from the films as first shown.
For a viewer, the practical difference is this: the 4K discs let you watch the films at home at a higher resolution than standard Blu-ray, while the parks let you ride. Neither gives you a new interactive version of the digital Grid.
