Triple H says R-Truth was never fired and remained under contract during a breakdown in negotiations. Truth, however, says he was told WWE would not renew his contract and that he should not come to work—an exchange he understood as being fired. The two accounts describe the same episode differently; the available reporting does not independently settle its contractual label.
What did Triple H say about R-Truth’s status?
In comments previewed for WWE Unreal Season 2, Triple H described stalled contract talks in which WWE and Truth were far apart on money and communication had broken down. He said WWE was not planning to renew at that point, while leaving open the possibility that talks could resume. He also said Truth went on social media and said he had been fired, which Triple H disputed.
Fightful’s January 19, 2026 report transcribed Triple H as saying: “He immediately went out on social and said he was fired, which he was never fired. Contrary to prior belief, he was never not under contract with us.” Those words are Fightful’s transcription of the preview, not an independently checked transcript. What did R-Truth say happened?
In a Breakfast Club appearance, Truth said an agent was handling discussions and that he received a call saying WWE would not renew his contract. He said he asked whether he should come to work and was told no. Truth described the experience as sudden, although negotiations had been underway, and said: “That’s the way I took it. It felt like a firing to me.”

How do the two accounts differ?
| Question | Triple H’s account | R-Truth’s account |
|---|---|---|
| Contract status | Triple H said Truth was never without a WWE contract. | Truth said he was told WWE would not renew his contract. |
| Work instruction | His reported comments focus on stalled talks, communication and Truth’s public description of the episode. | Truth said he was told not to come to work. |
| Meaning of the episode | Triple H described differing interpretations after a communication breakdown. | Truth said it felt like a firing to him. |
These statements are not necessarily interchangeable: a decision not to renew and an immediate termination can describe different arrangements, while the instruction not to report to work shaped Truth’s understanding of what had happened. The reports relay each speaker’s account but do not include the contract or an independent ruling on the terminology.

Its January 19, 2026 article said WWE Unreal Season 2 was scheduled for release on January 20, 2026. These dates are outlet-reported timeline details, not a resolution of the disagreement over his status.
