She called the result “upsetting and ridiculous” and argued that trans viewers deserved to see a trans person on the show. PerthNow reported the story on 22 May 2020. This is a report about a 2020 casting outcome, not a current casting decision. Her comments were critical of the process and of other contestants, but they were not a physical attack. The word “attack” in the headline is the publisher’s framing of a verbal reaction.
What Dawson posted
According to PerthNow, Dawson uploaded the video after she was not chosen for the program. Its title was “I Didn’t Make It onto Big Brother Australia 2020 and I’m upset.” When the article was published, the video had nearly 16,000 views. The report describes her as disappointed and frank in the video.
Why she said she should have been cast

PerthNow quotes her saying her community “deserve to see a trans narrative on TV and I’m the perfect person to give that to Australia and show we’re real people.” She also said, “No one else in this country can do what I can do. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be in that house.”
Her disclaimer about gender identity
The article reproduces a disclaimer in which Dawson says she is “sharing my feelings as a trans-person trying to succeed in the entertainment industry and in no way do I believe my gender identity played a factor in the outcome of my audition.” She added that she was “in ‘no way’ implying Big Brother or Endemol Shine ‘are transphobic or didn’t pick me to enter the house because I am trans’.”

These are Dawson’s own words as quoted by PerthNow. Her position is that her gender identity was not the reason for the outcome. Any reading of the story that presents her as alleging discriminatory casting goes beyond what the quoted material says.
Her comments on other contestants and her background
PerthNow reports that Dawson described the other contestants as “generic and ordinary.” The article also notes that she had previously appeared on The X-Factor and Trial By Kyle. The abuse and job-loss claims
The report says Dawson described receiving abusive and transphobic messages and losing her job after the casting result. These details reach readers through several layers, and each one should be read on its own terms:
- Dawson made the statements in her video and in an interview.
- PerthNow attributes the abuse and job-loss details to what she told the Daily Mail.
- PerthNow then relayed that account in its own May 2020 article.
No independent confirmation of those specifics appears in the coverage. They should be presented as her account, not as established fact.
