In a September interview with Entertainment Tonight, she reflected on how suddenly her health scare began—and how it changed her outlook.
What happened to Tori Kelly in 2023?
Kelly told Entertainment Tonight that she had felt “just a little tired throughout the day” and noticed her heart rate was high before she collapsed at dinner with her husband, André Murillo. She was hospitalized for a week, and doctors found blood clots.

She said she had not known the clots were there, had no family history of clots, and still did not know what caused them. She did not identify a cause, and none should be inferred from her account.
How did the experience change her perspective?
Kelly said the hospitalization made her think differently about everyday life: “That just made me even more grateful and not want to take a single moment for granted.” She also described the episode as frightening but said she felt an “unexplainable peace” that things would be OK.

Her July 27, 2023 public note had described “unexpected health challenges.” As quoted by Good Morning America, she wrote, “I’m feeling stronger now and hopeful but unfortunately there are still some things to uncover.” Her EP Tori was released that week.

In the September 2023 interview, Kelly said she was managing the condition with medication and a blood thinner, and that her doctors had cleared her to perform. Those comments describe her circumstances at that time; they are not a current health update.
