Using the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 as the main frame, Rihanna featuring Jay-Z’s “Umbrella” is the clearest answer to “What was the song of the summer in 2007?” The year-end number-one list records seven weeks at number one during summer and notes that music press credited it as the year’s Song of the Summer. That label is not universal, however: an Associated Press retrospective also calls T-Pain featuring Yung Joc’s “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” a 2007 past champion.
What were the top songs of summer 2007?
“Top songs” can mean a track’s performance over a stretch of weeks, its position on one dated chart, or a retrospective Song of the Summer designation. The available U.S. Billboard Hot 100 snapshots show several prominent summer hits, but they are selected weekly issues—not a complete season ranking.

Why do sources give different answers for Song of the Summer?
The apparent disagreement reflects different kinds of claims. Billboard’s year-number-one list supports a chart-performance answer: “Umbrella” spent seven weeks at number one during summer. The AP retrospective’s “past champion” label for “Buy a Drank” is a distinct retrospective designation; the cited article does not explain the method behind that historical label. Neither should be treated as a universal award that settles every definition of “song of the summer.”
Time window matters, too. A single dated Hot 100 issue tells you what ranked on that week, while a season-level claim concerns performance accumulated over a broader period. The June 9 and July 7 Billboard archives offer snapshots, not a complete summer-by-summer tally.

Did “Umbrella” top the UK chart as well?
Yes. In the UK, the Official Singles Chart lists “Umbrella” at number one for July 8–14, 2007. That is a result for that specific UK chart week; it is useful regional confirmation, not part of a combined U.S.–UK ranking. Official Singles Chart, July 8–14, 2007
