Why other 2020 costume lists differ
The Frightgeist top 20 is not interchangeable with every report of Halloween searches that year. Spirit Halloween also described September searches, audience-specific categories and local examples; those use different time windows or populations than its overall ranking. Separate October reports by Yahoo and The Bump led with Cobra Kai and included other entries such as Dungeon Master and The Mandalorian. The underlying Google pages were unavailable to verify the precise methodology behind those differences, so these should be treated as distinct trend lists rather than merged into one ranking.

What the ranking can—and cannot—tell you
The list is a snapshot of search interest in 2020, as reported by Spirit Halloween on October 16 of that year. It does not establish how many costumes were sold, which costumes people ultimately wore, or which costumes are popular now. Witch is a reasonable choice if you want to recreate the top-ranked 2020 look, but the historical placement should not be read as evidence of present-day demand.
