There is no official “waifu” ranking for My Hero Academia. This is an editorial list using the fandom term as shorthand for a favorite female character—not an objective measure of attractiveness or an invitation to sexualize the series’ student characters. The order weighs character development, story contribution, personality and relationships, distinctive design or powers, and available fan-poll context.
The list covers the wider franchise, including students, adult heroes, and villains. The anime’s official roster groups characters by role rather than ranking them, and confirms the names of the six female Class 1-A students included here: Ochaco Uraraka, Tsuyu Asui, Momo Yaoyorozu, Kyoka Jiro, Mina Ashido, and Toru Hagakure.
Top 15 My Hero Academia waifus, ranked
This ranking is an editorial judgment, not a canon result. The order favors memorable characterization and meaningful roles in the story; it is not a popularity-poll leaderboard. Students are discussed as characters to admire for their choices, growth, and abilities, without romantic framing.
1. Ochaco Uraraka
Uraraka’s warmth is only one part of her appeal. Her determination to become a hero grows from a practical desire to support her family, and the story gives that goal real weight as she confronts the demands and costs of hero work. Her empathy is not passivity: she repeatedly chooses to act when other people need help. That combination of heart, ambition, and development makes her the strongest all-around pick.

2. Momo Yaoyorozu
Yaoyorozu’s creation Quirk gives her an unusually strategic role: she must understand what a situation requires and make decisions under pressure. Her early confidence is complicated by self-doubt, and her progress comes through learning to trust her judgment and work with others. She ranks near the top for the way the series connects intellect, leadership, and personal growth.
3. Tsuyu Asui
Asui stands out for steadiness rather than grand gestures. Her directness can be blunt, but it also makes her a reliable teammate who is willing to speak plainly when a choice feels wrong. Her frog-like abilities give her a distinctive presence in action scenes, while her composure and loyalty make her memorable beyond her design.
4. Kyoka Jiro
Jiro’s reserved, dryly funny manner gives her a different energy from the more openly enthusiastic students around her. Her sound-based abilities are useful in combat and reconnaissance, and her connection to music adds a personal dimension to her story. She earns this placement for blending a clear point of view with a power set that supports inventive teamwork.
5. Mirko
As a professional hero, Mirko brings a forceful physical style and a fierce independence to the story. Her rabbit-based abilities are immediately legible in action, but her appeal is not just spectacle: she commits fully when a situation turns dangerous. Including adult heroes broadens the ranking beyond the student cast, and Mirko is one of the franchise’s most striking examples.
6. Mina Ashido
Ashido’s social confidence and upbeat energy make her an easy presence to enjoy, but she is also attentive to the people around her. Her acid-based abilities give her an energetic combat style, and her friendships help show how much the Class 1-A students support one another. She ranks here for the contrast between her bright personality and her capacity to step up when it matters.
7. Himiko Toga
Toga is a compelling villain because the story makes her unsettling worldview part of her characterization rather than treating her as a simple source of menace. Her transformation ability is closely tied to how she understands identity and affection, with consequences that make her role difficult to separate from the series’ larger conflicts. This placement recognizes the strength of her writing, not an endorsement of her actions.
8. Nejire Hado
Nejire’s curiosity and exuberance distinguish her among the older students, while her energy-wave Quirk makes her a formidable presence. She brings a sense of playfulness to scenes without being reduced to comic relief. Her inclusion also reflects the wider school cast, rather than treating Class 1-A as the whole of the series’ female characters.
9. Toru Hagakure
Hagakure’s invisibility creates an unusual character-design challenge, and the series uses it as more than a visual gimmick: it shapes how she participates in group scenes and action. Her cheerful, sociable personality gives her a clear identity even when she is not physically visible. She places ninth because her distinctive premise is memorable, though the story gives her less individual development than several higher-ranked characters.

10. Nana Shimura
Shimura’s importance reaches across generations of heroes. Her legacy helps shape the ideals and burdens carried by other characters, giving her a substantial presence even when she is not at the center of the present-day action. She ranks for the way her history informs the story’s emotional stakes and its ideas about what heroism asks of people.

11. Lady Nagant
Lady Nagant adds moral complexity to the professional-hero world. Her sharp-shooting ability and composed presence make her visually distinctive, while her history raises questions about the institutions that shape heroes and the costs of serving them. Her role is more compact than those of the characters above her, but it leaves a strong impression.
12. Midnight
Midnight is a recognizable teacher and professional hero whose theatrical presentation contrasts with her role as an instructor. Her Quirk and confident persona make her easy to identify, while her place among the adults gives the student-centered story a broader view of hero society. This ranking treats her as a character in that world, not as a student or a substitute for the younger cast.
13. Eri
Eri’s story is defined by vulnerability, recovery, and the possibility of trust after trauma. Her Rewind ability is powerful, but the most affecting part of her arc is the care and patience that allow her to begin feeling safe. She is included for the emotional importance of her character—not for romantic appeal.
14. Inko Midoriya
Inko offers a grounded perspective on the risks of a society built around hero work. Her concern for Izuku is understandable, and her role gives the protagonist’s ambitions a family context that action-focused scenes can otherwise leave out. She earns her place through emotional realism rather than combat ability.
15. Burnin
Burnin’s bold look and energetic presence make her stand out among the supporting professional heroes. She is not as deeply developed as the series’ central students or major villains, but her place in the wider hero cast helps round out a list that spans more than one school class. The final spot is a nod to memorable design and supporting-role appeal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How fan polls compare with this ranking
Polls offer useful snapshots, but their results depend on who was asked, when, and which characters were eligible. They do not settle a definitive franchise-wide order.
- VIZ Media’s December 3, 2018 poll reported over 100,000 voters. In VIZ’s listed poll, Yaoyorozu placed fifth, Asui eighth, and Uraraka tenth. VIZ separately listed a Japan top ten, where Yaoyorozu was seventh and Asui and Uraraka were outside that top ten. These are distinct lists, not one combined ranking.
- Emoland’s independent 2026 fan poll asked which female Class 1-A character respondents liked best. It collected 54 responses from July 2 to July 26, 2026; Uraraka received 26 votes, Asui 10, and Jiro 7. Emoland describes it as its own poll, not an official popularity poll. Its six-student candidate pool and small respondent group do not represent all characters or all fans.
The poll results are context for a few student characters, not a measure of the adult heroes and villains in this list. A reader drawn to character growth may rank someone differently from a reader who prioritizes design, action scenes, or a memorable supporting role.
