The poll ranked ten candies, not twenty. The ten additional picks below are clearly labeled editorial choices—not survey results—and reflect divisive flavors, textures, and the tension between nostalgia and seasonal appeal.
What “worst” means in this list
A candy ranking is a matter of taste, not a finding about nutrition, dental health, or whether a treat is safe for every child. CandyStore.com says 3,200 of its customers responded to its 2026 best-and-worst survey. The company describes the poll as a measure of what respondents say they love and hate, and distinguishes it from its state-by-state map based on sales. Its methodology statement, attributed to Ben George, is: “We survey the customers of our online candy store and let the votes fall where they fall.” The poll is proprietary and does not establish what all U.S. candy buyers think.
The page publishes ten worst-ranked candies. To make a twenty-item list without misrepresenting that poll, the first ten below follow its order; places 11–20 are an editorial continuation. Those additions use consistent, subjective criteria: flavor profile, texture, how divisive the candy can be, whether its appeal depends on seasonal or nostalgic associations, and the likelihood that it may be an unwelcome surprise in a trick-or-treat bag. No frequency-of-receipt data is available here, so that dimension is not presented as measured fact.
The ten candies in CandyStore.com’s 2026 survey
These are the poll’s reported positions, from worst-ranked to tenth-worst. They represent respondents’ stated dislike, not a universal verdict.

It ranked #1 worst in the 2026 survey. The result is a striking example of how a candy can be polarizing rather than simply unpopular: the same publisher placed candy corn #8 nationally on its separate 2026 sales map and said it won Maryland, North Dakota, and Utah. The sales map is the publisher’s projection from sales data, not an independently audited national census.

These thin, chalky wafers have a texture and mild flavor that can seem less satisfying than a chewy or chocolate candy.

CandyStore.com’s 2026 list stops at ten. The entries below are not ranked by that survey and should not be read as its findings. They extend the theme using recognizable candy styles that can disappoint people who dislike their flavor or texture.

Gumdrops
The sugary coating and firm, sticky chew are a textural commitment. Anyone who dislikes gummy sweets is unlikely to be won over by their colorful appearance.

Why the poll result and sales map differ
CandyStore.com’s 2026 survey and sales map answer different questions. The survey records what participating customers say they love or hate; the map is presented as a projection from sales data. A candy can therefore be widely bought while also being strongly disliked by some respondents. Candy corn’s #1 worst survey position alongside its #8 national sales-map position—and wins in three states—illustrates that distinction. Neither result alone establishes what every household prefers.
A separate CandyStore.com love-or-hate poll in 2023 had 3,247 respondents: 56% said they loved candy corn and 44% said they hated it. That was a different study from the 2026 worst-candy survey. The 2023 poll was emailed to CandyStore.com customers and also ran as an open poll on its website, where respondents chose love or hate and could explain their reasons. Its figures should not be blended with the 2026 sample or ranking.
What to do with candy nobody wants
If a treat is unwanted, it does not have to become household waste—or a reason to pressure someone to eat it. Consider setting aside unopened, commercially wrapped candy for a local community group if it accepts donations, or asking neighbors whether they want to trade. Check local rules and the organization’s current acceptance policy before donating. If nobody wants it, discard it according to local waste guidance.

Check wrappers and age-appropriate safety
Disliking a candy is not the same as a safety concern. For Halloween treats, the FDA advises inspecting commercially wrapped items, checking labels for allergens, and keeping choking hazards away from very young children. Its consumer guidance says: “If a ‘Contains’ statement appears on a food label, it must include the food source names of all major food allergens used as ingredients.” Read the full ingredient information on the actual package: ingredients and allergen statements can change, and “may contain” advisory statements are voluntary. Do not infer allergen status from a candy’s name or an older package.
The FDA also identifies gum, peanuts, hard candies, and small toys as choking hazards to remove from treats for very young children. Use the child’s age and ability to chew safely when deciding what to keep, and follow the FDA’s Halloween guidance for further precautions.
