What was Tony Roberts known for?
Roberts built a career across Broadway, film and television. He appeared in six Woody Allen films, including Annie Hall (1977), Play It Again, Sam, Stardust Memories, A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy, Hannah and Her Sisters and Radio Days, according to the Associated Press.

In the 1977 film, Roberts played Rob, the friend of Alvy Singer, the character played by Allen. He was a supporting player, not the film’s lead. The Washington Post characterized the recurring comic dynamic between Roberts and Allen as Roberts playing a self-assured, unflappable foil to Allen’s neurotic characters.

Roberts also appeared in films such as Serpico and Dirty Dancing. His television credits included Matlock, Murder, She Wrote, Law & Order and Trapper John, M.D., according to SAG-AFTRA.
