Troupe died on Sunday morning, July 20, 2025. The Los Angeles Times reported the location and cause of death based on information from publicist Harlan Boll. The Television Academy independently lists July 20, 2025, as his date of passing and July 15, 1928, as his birth date; those dates make him 97.

From Kansas City to Broadway and television
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Troupe moved to New York in 1948 to pursue acting, according to CBS News. He served in the Korean War and later returned to stage acting. CBS News, citing his representative, reported that he earned a Bronze Star.
The Los Angeles Times says Troupe made his Broadway debut in 1957 as Peter van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank. He moved to Los Angeles the following year and went on to appear in more than 75 television series, the newspaper reported. That figure describes the scale of his career as reported by the Times, rather than an official industry tally.

His television and film credits
Troupe appeared in a wide range of television dramas and comedies. The Los Angeles Times lists Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, Planet of the Apes, CHiPs, Quincy M.E. and Who’s the Boss? among his credits. The Television Academy’s selected credits also include Star Trek.
His film work included The Big Fisherman (1959), Kelly’s Heroes (1970) and My Own Private Idaho (1991), according to the Los Angeles Times. The Television Academy also lists Kelly’s Heroes.

His guest appearance on Frasier
TV Insider’s credit listing identifies Troupe as a minister in the Frasier episode “Martin Does It His Way” (1995). This is a guest credit, not evidence that he was a series regular; the episode detail is listed by TV Insider and is not included in the Television Academy biography or the Los Angeles Times obituary.
Stage work and his life with Carole Cook
Troupe continued acting onstage, including in The Lion in Winter, Fathers Day and The Gin Game. The Los Angeles Times notes that actor Carole Cook co-starred with him in each. They married in 1964. Cook died in 2023 at age 98, the newspaper reported.

Recognition
The Television Academy’s biography records no Emmy nominations for Troupe. His selected credits reflect a career spanning stage, television and film, though the absence of nominations does not measure the full scope of his work.
